Chapter 5 - THE COLLAPSE OF THE QUEEN BEEThe silence in the boardroom was absolute. You could hear the faint hum of the air conditioning unit and the heavy, ragged breathing of Beatriz Alcázar.

"You're lying," Beatriz whispered, her voice trembling violently as she clutched the edges of the table for support. She glared around the room at her hand-picked board members. "Don't listen to them! They're conspiring against the Alcázar family name! Call the police! Arrest them!"

One by one, the board members slowly slid their chairs back. They didn't look at Beatriz. They kept their eyes fixed on the floor, terrified of being tainted by association with a sinking ship.

Lead federal investigator Officer Navarro stepped forward, pulling a pair of cold steel handcuffs from his belt.

"Beatriz Alcázar, and Guillermo Alcázar in absentia," Officer Navarro stated loudly, his voice echoing off the mahogany walls. "You are under arrest for federal financial fraud, tax evasion, money laundering, and the submission of false criminal affidavits to law enforcement."

"No! You can't do this to me! Do you know who I am?!" Beatriz shrieked, losing all remaining shreds of dignity as she pushed back her chair and tried to run toward the side exit.

Two federal agents moved with lightning speed, blocking the doorway and pinning her arms behind her back. The silver cuffs clicked into place with a sharp, final sound.

As they dragged her past the table, Beatriz caught sight of Mariana standing calmly beside Adrián. Her face twisted into a mask of pure, venomous hatred.

"You think you've won, you miserable parasite?!" Beatriz screamed, spitting venom as she was hauled toward the doors. "You think this billionaire cares about you and your brats?! He's just using you for a headline! The moment the cameras are gone, he’ll throw you in the trash just like I did!"

The heavy oak doors slammed shut behind her, cutting off her hysterical screams.

The boardroom descended into a profound, heavy silence.

Héctor Morales, the trembling lawyer, slowly raised his hands. "Mr... Mr. Valdés. As legal counsel, I can assist the federal investigators with whatever documentation they need—"

"Save your breath, Héctor," Adrián said coldly, not even looking at him. "You’re an accessory to fraud. Your resignation, along with every corrupt board member in this room, is expected on my desk within the hour. If you aren't out of this building by noon, I’ll personally make sure you share a jail cell with Beatriz."

Within thirty seconds, the boardroom was completely empty, save for Adrián, Elena, and Mariana.

Mariana let out a long, shaky breath, her knees suddenly feeling weak. She grabbed onto the back of a chair to steady herself. The nightmare that had ruled her life since Julián died was finally, officially over.

Adrián was by her side in an instant, gently placing a hand on her shoulder.

"Are you alright?" he asked softly.

Mariana looked up at him, tears welling in her eyes, but this time, they weren't tears of fear or grief. They were tears of profound, overwhelming relief.

"I don't even know how to thank you, Adrián," she whispered. "You saved us. You saved my girls."

"You didn't need me to save you, Mariana," Adrián replied with a rare, gentle smile. "You just needed someone to give you the platform to fight back. And trust me... we're only getting started."
