CHAPTER 6 — "THE DEAD MAN OPENED THE FRONT DOOR."

The grandfather clock in Whitmore Manor struck eight.

Every servant stopped working.

Every conversation faded into silence.

A black luxury sedan slowly rolled through the front gates.

Nathan stood in the foyer, Richard's letter still clutched tightly in his hand.

Two words echoed relentlessly inside his mind.

Trust Victor.

But how could he trust a man who had supposedly died nearly a quarter of a century ago?

The front door opened.

An elderly man stepped inside.

His gray hair was damp from the rain.

A deep scar stretched across the left side of his face.

He leaned on an old walnut cane, but despite his age, his piercing blue eyes radiated quiet authority.

For several long seconds...

No one spoke.

Nathan stared as if he had seen a ghost.

The man removed his hat.

"My name is Victor Whitmore."

Emily gasped softly.

Grace instinctively stepped closer to Nathan.

Harold Benson lowered his head.

"Welcome home, sir."

Nathan looked from Harold to the stranger.

"You... know him?"

Harold nodded.

"I've known he was alive for twenty-four years."

The room erupted.

"What?" Nathan shouted.

"You lied to me?"

Harold's eyes filled with regret.

"I made a promise to your father."

Victor slowly walked forward.

"I asked him to keep my survival a secret."

Nathan clenched his fists.

"Why?"

Victor's voice was calm.

"Because someone tried to murder me."

Silence swallowed the room.

Victor looked directly into Nathan's eyes.

"The helicopter crash wasn't an accident."

"It was arranged."

Emily covered her mouth.

Grace whispered,

"Who would do something like that?"

Victor answered without hesitation.

"The same person who convinced Margaret to destroy innocent lives."

Nathan stepped closer.

"Then tell me his name."

Victor hesitated.

"First..."

"You deserve to know the truth about your father."

He reached into his leather briefcase and carefully removed a weathered journal.

Richard Whitmore's private diary.

"I was with your father the night before he died."

Nathan's breathing quickened.

Victor opened the diary to its final page.

Richard's handwriting was unmistakable.

If anything happens to me... it was not fate.

Someone inside my own family has decided that the Whitmore fortune is worth more than human life.

Nathan's hands trembled.

Victor continued.

"Richard discovered millions of dollars disappearing from the company."

"He traced every transaction."

"Every fake investment."

"Every shell corporation."

"And every trail led to one person."

Victor slowly placed a thick folder onto the marble table.

Nathan opened it.

Inside were photographs.

Secret bank transfers.

Private contracts.

Insurance policies.

Hidden offshore accounts.

Every document carried the signature of one executive.

Edward Whitmore.

Nathan's face hardened.

"My father's cousin..."

Victor nodded.

"He has spent twenty-six years quietly taking control of the family empire."

Grace looked stunned.

"So Margaret..."

"...was working for him?"

Victor sighed.

"No."

"She believed she was protecting the family."

"He fed her lies."

"He convinced her that anyone outside the Whitmore bloodline would destroy everything Richard had built."

Emily whispered,

"So she became his weapon..."

Victor nodded sadly.

"Exactly."

Nathan slammed the folder shut.

"I'm ending this today."

Victor grabbed his arm.

"No."

Nathan looked confused.

"What do you mean?"

Victor's expression turned deadly serious.

"If you confront Edward now..."

"...you'll lose."

Nathan frowned.

"I have evidence."

Victor slowly shook his head.

"No."

"You have enough evidence to make him nervous."

"But not enough to destroy him."

Nathan stared at him.

"Then what am I missing?"

Victor reached into his coat pocket.

He carefully placed a small silver key in Nathan's hand.

"The vault beneath the old Whitmore vineyard."

Nathan looked puzzled.

"My father never mentioned a vault."

"He couldn't."

Victor lowered his voice.

"Because only Richard..."

"...and I..."

"...knew it existed."

Nathan turned the old key over in his palm.

It was engraved with the Whitmore family crest.

On the opposite side...

Three words had been carved by hand.

The Final Proof.

Just then...

Nathan's phone vibrated.

A security alert flashed across the screen.

Unauthorized access detected.

Location: Richard Whitmore's private office.

Nathan's eyes widened.

Someone was inside the office.

Searching for something.

Victor looked at the notification and quietly said,

"He's realized we're getting close."

Nathan looked toward the staircase.

"So Edward is here?"

Victor slowly shook his head.

"No..."

His eyes narrowed toward the security monitor.

"Edward never gets his own hands dirty."

The camera feed flickered.

A masked figure was seen tearing paintings from the wall, ripping open drawers, and searching frantically through Richard's office.

Then the intruder suddenly looked directly into the security camera...

Raised one gloved hand...

And held up a lighter.

Nathan shouted,

"NO!"

The screen went black.

Moments later...

A deafening explosion echoed through Whitmore Manor.

May you like

Richard Whitmore's private office...

Was engulfed in flames.
