Chapter 7 - The Interception

The reunion on the jet bridge was abruptly interrupted by the heavy clanking of footsteps echoing up from the terminal ramp behind us.
"Julian Arthur Voss!"
A voice boomed through the narrow corridor—sharp, commanding, and laced with absolute fury.
I stood up, pulling Clara and the boys slightly behind me, and turned around. Striding down the jet bridge with two private security guards in tow was my father, Arthur Voss. His tailored suit was wrinkled, his hair slightly out of place, and his face twisted into a mask of pure, unadulterated rage.
"You absolute fool," my father snarled, stopping a few feet away, his chest heaving. "Do you have any idea what you’ve done? You froze the corporate accounts, handed voting rights to our fiercest competitors, and humiliated our family name on national television in less than twenty minutes!"
"I finally grew a spine, Dad," I replied, my voice steady, cold, and entirely devoid of the fear he had instilled in me since childhood. "You ruined my life six years ago. You don't get to ruin theirs."
My father’s eyes darted past me, locking onto Clara and the four boys clinging to her dress. A sneer twisted his thin lips. 0
"Ah, the little gold-digger and her bastards," my father spat venomous contempt. "You think walking away from the Voss name makes you a hero, Julian? You’re a nobody without this family. You won't last a month in the real world."
"Try me," a calm, authoritative voice echoed from the end of the jet bridge.
We all turned. Stepping out of the terminal entrance was a tall, silver-haired woman in an immaculate Chanel suit, flanked by two federal marshals and a team of corporate litigation attorneys.
My mother’s lawyer—Eleanor Vance, no relation to Clara, but rather the head of the federal securities commission's white-collar crime division.
My father’s face instantly lost all color. He staggered backward, his eyes widening in absolute horror. "Eleanor... what is the meaning of this?"
"Arthur Voss, you are under federal investigation for securities fraud, corporate extortion, and the unlawful coercion and intimidation of private citizens dating back to 2018," Eleanor announced crisply, pulling a legal warrant from her briefcase. "These two marshals will be escorting you downtown for questioning. Any assets remaining in your offshore accounts have been seized under federal forfeiture laws."
"This is a mistake! My son—my son has no right—" my father stammered, pointing a shaking finger at me as the two marshals stepped forward, firmly gripping his arms.
"Your son owns the voting shares now, Arthur," Eleanor said flatly, signaling the guards to escort him away. "And your reign of terror in Boston is officially over."

As my father was hauled away in cuffs, screaming obscenities down the terminal ramp, a profound, suffocating weight lifted off my shoulders. The Voss dynasty of corruption had finally fallen.
And ours was just beginning.
