Chapter 8 - THE DAWN OVER CHAPULTEPECThree months later.

The morning sun rose over Mexico City, casting a golden, warm glow across the sprawling emerald canopy of Chapultepec Park. The air was crisp, carrying the faint, earthy scent of damp grass and blooming jacaranda trees.

Dr. Mariana Salcedo stood on the paved pathway near the central lake, holding a red bicycle steady by its handlebars.

Footsteps approached from behind—light, quick, and entirely steady.

Mariana turned around.

Valentina walked toward her, wearing a bright yellow jacket, her hair pulled back into a neat ponytail. The dark bruises that had once shadowed her face were completely gone, replaced by the natural, vibrant glow of a healthy, happy thirteen-year-old girl. There was no hesitation in her steps, no fear in her eyes—only a bright, radiant smile that mirrored the morning sun.

"Do you think I'll fall this time, Mom?" Valentina asked, tilting her head with a playful grin.

Mariana felt a thick lump form in her throat. She knelt down, adjusting the safety helmet on Valentina's head, her hands no longer trembling, but steady and strong.

"Even if you do," Mariana whispered softly, kissing her forehead, "I will always be right here to catch you."

Valentina threw her arms around Mariana's neck, squeezing her tight. "Thank you for not believing the stairs, Mom."

"Always, my love," Mariana smiled, pulling back and pointing toward the open path ahead. "Now... let's ride."

As Valentina pushed off the pedals and glided smoothly down the path, her carefree laughter echoing across the morning air, Mariana stood watching, her heart finally at peace.

Far across the city, behind the cold, gray walls of a maximum-security federal penitentiary, two men named Arriaga sat in isolation cells, staring at blank concrete walls—living monuments to a corrupt empire that had finally been destroyed by a mother's unyielding love and a brave girl's forty-two hidden truths.

And in San Gabriel Hospital, high above the emergency entrance, the security camera blinked with a steady, peaceful green light—recording a future that belonged entirely to them.
