CHAPTER 2 – The Camera Revealed a Secret More Terrifying Than I Ever Imagined

My hands were frozen around my phone.

I replayed the footage five times.

The same scene.

The same bottle.

The same clear liquid disappearing into my dinner.

I rushed into the kitchen.

The soup was still sitting on the stove.

Untouched.

My wife smiled from the living room.

"Aren't you hungry?"

"I'll eat later," I replied, forcing a smile.

That night, after she fell asleep, I carefully poured some of the soup into a sealed container.

The next morning, instead of driving to work...

I drove straight to a private laboratory.

Twenty-four hours later, my phone rang.

The technician sounded unusually serious.

"Sir... where did this sample come from?"

"Why?"

"There are traces of a powerful toxic compound."

I nearly dropped the phone.

"It isn't enough to kill someone immediately."

The technician paused.

"But repeated doses over several weeks could slowly damage the liver, kidneys, and heart."

I couldn't breathe.

Someone had been poisoning me.

Slowly.

Patiently.

I returned home pretending nothing had happened.

That evening, my wife hugged me tighter than usual.

"You don't look well."

"I've just been tired."

She smiled.

"I'll make your favorite dinner."

For the first time...

I was terrified of the woman sleeping beside me.

Over the next several days, I watched every camera recording.

A horrifying pattern appeared.

Every single morning after I left for work...

my wife took the same bottle from a locked makeup case.

Every single evening...

Bella tried to stop her.

She barked.

Pulled her sleeves.

Bit her jacket.

Not once did Bella try to hurt her face or neck.

She always targeted the pocket hiding the poison.

Then the biggest shock arrived.

While reviewing older recordings, I noticed my wife making a phone call.

The kitchen microphone barely caught the conversation.

"...don't worry," she whispered.

"He signed the new life insurance papers last month."

A man's voice answered.

"Soon it'll all be ours."

I froze.

I recognized that voice instantly.

It belonged to my business partner...

the man I'd trusted for nearly fifteen years.

The affair wasn't just emotional.

It was a murder plan.

Together, they intended to inherit everything I owned.

And Bella...

the old dog everyone believed had gone vicious...

had been risking her own life every single day to stop them.

That night I knelt beside Bella.

She gently rested her gray muzzle against my hand.

"I'm sorry," I whispered through tears.

"I almost abandoned the only one who never betrayed me."

Bella slowly wagged her tail.

As if she already knew.

The next morning, I prepared breakfast exactly as usual.

My wife watched from across the table, waiting for me to take the first spoonful.

Instead...

there was a knock at the front door.

She smiled confidently.

Until four police officers walked inside holding a search warrant.

The smile disappeared from her face.

Bella stood up.

For the first time in weeks...

she didn't bark.

She simply watched quietly...

as the truth finally caught up with the woman who had spent months trying to convince everyone that the family dog was the real monster.
