CHAPTER 3 – The Trial That Exposed Everyone

The entire neighborhood gathered outside my house as police cars filled the street.

My wife stood frozen, still wearing the same smile she had forced at breakfast only seconds earlier.

"What is this?" she demanded.

"There must be some mistake."

One of the detectives calmly replied, "Ma'am, we have a warrant to search the property."

She glanced at me.

Then at Bella.

For a split second, I saw something I had never seen in her eyes before.

Fear.

Real fear.

The officers searched every room while I remained in the living room, holding Bella close.

She leaned against my leg, unusually calm.

Almost as though she knew the nightmare was finally ending.

Then one officer called from upstairs.

"Detective... you need to see this."

Everyone rushed into the master bedroom.

Inside my wife's locked makeup case, officers found several identical bottles containing the same clear liquid that had been detected in my food.

But that wasn't all.

Hidden beneath a false compartment were forged insurance documents, fake medical records describing my "declining health," burner phones, and nearly fifty thousand dollars in cash.

The detective slowly looked toward my wife.

"Would you like to explain these?"

She crossed her arms.

"I've never seen those before."

"They're not mine."

The detective nodded without arguing.

Instead, he handed one of the phones to a forensic technician.

Within minutes, the phone was unlocked.

The room became silent.

Thousands of messages appeared on the screen.

Most were between my wife...

and my business partner, Eric.

One message made everyone stop breathing.

"Once he's too weak to notice, we'll make it look like heart failure."

Another read:

"Don't worry about the dog. Everyone already thinks she's dangerous."

I felt physically sick.

Bella hadn't just been protecting me.

She had become part of their murder plan.

If they couldn't silence her...

they planned to send her away forever.

Police arrested my wife immediately.

That afternoon they arrested Eric at our company headquarters.

News spread quickly.

Employees couldn't believe the respected executive had secretly planned to murder his own business partner.

I thought it was finally over.

I was wrong.

Three weeks later, the trial began.

Reporters packed every seat in the courtroom.

Television cameras waited outside.

Everyone wanted to hear the story of the loyal dog that uncovered an attempted murder.

My wife entered wearing a gray suit instead of prison clothes.

She looked completely different.

Calm.

Confident.

She smiled directly at me.

"You still don't know everything," she whispered as she walked past.

The words sent a chill down my spine.

Then her attorney stood and delivered a statement that stunned the courtroom.

"My client did not create this plan."

"She was only following instructions."

Every head turned.

"If you want the real mastermind..."

he said slowly,

"you should stop looking at the wife."

"You should start looking at the husband."

The courtroom exploded with gasps.

Even I couldn't understand what he meant.

Then the lawyer held up a faded photograph.

A photograph I had never seen before.

It showed my late father...

standing beside a man whose face looked almost identical to Eric's.

And written on the back were six words that changed everything.

'One day he'll come back for revenge.'
