Chapter 4 - Behind the Iron Bars

"Stop this right now!" Nathan shouted, shoving his way past reporters to shield Emily. "She’s my wife! This is a setup!"

"Nathan, don't!" Emily cried as the officers pulled her away. "Protect the children! Promise me you’ll protect Johnny, Paul, and Lily!"

"I promise! I will get you out of here!" Nathan screamed as his security detail was held back by the police officers who had been bribed by Margaret’s legal team.

Emily was dragged out of the Plaza Hotel in handcuffs, surrounded by a frenzy of flashing cameras and shouting journalists. By midnight, her picture was plastered across every news channel and social media platform in the nation: “THE MAID WHO TRAPPED A CEO: EXPOSED!”

Inside the cold, concrete walls of the Manhattan Detention Center, Emily sat in a dim cell. She was terrified, but her spirit remained unbroken. She knew she had done nothing wrong.

Meanwhile, Nathan was working feverishly. He hired the best legal team in New York City and spent the night in his office with Marcus, analyzing the files on David Vance.

At 3:00 AM, Marcus slammed a yellowed document onto Nathan’s desk.

"Nathan... you need to see this," Marcus said, his voice grave. "Ten years ago, David Vance was a brilliant chemical engineer working in West Virginia. He invented a revolutionary eco-friendly battery cell that was worth tens of billions of dollars."

Nathan’s eyes widened. "And who bought the patent?"

"Nobody," Marcus replied. "According to public records, the patent original paperwork was destroyed in a house fire—the exact fire that killed Emily’s mother. But look at Carter Enterprises' financial records six months after that fire."
