Chapter 8 - The Truth Revealed & A New Dawn

The entire nation stood still as news of the Carter family scandal exploded across the globe. Nathan isolated himself in his office for three excruciating days, refusing to see anyone while federal investigators and genetic scientists conducted emergency DNA testing.
Emily sat in the Greenwich mansion, holding Johnny, Paul, and Lily in her arms, weeping uncontrollably. She prayed with every fiber of her being that the evil woman's final words were a lie designed to destroy them forever.
On the fourth morning, the official medical report arrived.
Nathan walked into the living room, holding the sealed envelope from New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Emily stood up slowly, her heart beating so hard it hurt.
"Nathan... what does it say?" Emily asked in a trembling whisper.
Nathan opened the envelope with shaking fingers and read the official DNA analysis signed by the Chief Medical Examiner.
As his eyes scanned the text, tears streamed down his face—not of horror, but of overwhelming relief.
He looked up at Emily and smiled through his tears. "She lied, Emily. She lied to break us."
Emily let out a breathless sob. "What?"
"Margaret bought a child thirty years ago, yes," Nathan explained, reading the document aloud. "But I was not born in West Virginia. My biological parents were an impoverished couple from Ohio who died in an auto accident. You and I share zero DNA. We are not related by blood."
Emily collapsed into Nathan’s arms, weeping tears of pure joy and relief. Nathan held her tight, kissing her hair, her face, and her lips, feeling the heavy burden of nightmare lift from their souls forever.
Margaret Carter had attempted one final, cruel psychological strike to ruin their lives, but truth had finally set them free.
Six months later, the Carter estate was transformed.
The dark, oppressive atmosphere of the Greenwich mansion was replaced with bright colors, children's laughter, and warmth. Johnny’s heart surgery was a complete success; Paul was enrolled in a top private school; and little Lily was thriving, running through the sprawling gardens.
Margaret Carter was sentenced to thirty years in federal prison for arson, fraud, and manslaughter, where she would spend the rest of her days in isolation.
Emily was officially named the Chairwoman of the rebranded Vance-Carter Global Foundation, using her billions to build orphanages, support struggling single parents, and provide free medical care to families in need across the nation.
On a warm summer evening, Nathan and Emily walked hand-in-hand through the rose gardens of their home, watching Johnny, Paul, and Lily play freely on the grass.
"Do you ever miss your old life as a maid?" Nathan asked teasingly, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind.
Emily turned around, resting her hands gently on his chest—the chest that beat with pure love for her and her family.
"I was never just a maid, Nathan," Emily smiled softly, her eyes sparkling with radiant peace. "I was a survivor. But now... I am home."
