Chapter 5 - The Snake in the Grass

Nathan rushed to the detention center at dawn. When he saw Emily sitting behind the glass partition, looking frail yet resolute, his chest ached with fury and devotion.

"Emily," Nathan spoke through the intercom, his eyes burning with determination. "I know everything."

Emily looked confused. "What do you mean?"

"The fire ten years ago wasn't an accident," Nathan revealed softly. "Your father invented the technology that built half of my family's wealth. My mother, Margaret, hired an arsonist to burn down your house to steal his blueprints before he could patent them."

Emily froze, her breath catching in her throat. "What...? My mother... died because of your mother?"

"Yes," Nathan said, his voice cracking with shame and sorrow. "She tried to ruin you now because she realized who you were. She was afraid that if you stayed married to me, you would gain access to the family archives and discover the truth about your father's stolen legacy."

Tears streamed down Emily’s face, but her sadness slowly transformed into a burning, icy resolve. "She took my mother. She left my brothers and sister traumatized. She let me live in poverty while she lived in luxury off my father's blood."

"I will tear her down, Emily," Nathan swore, pressing his hand against the glass. "I don't care if she raised me. She is a monster. I will clear your name and return everything that belongs to you."

"No, Nathan," Emily said, wiping her tears away, her voice ringing with newfound strength. "We will tear her down together."

Nathan’s legal team filed an emergency motion presenting video evidence of Margaret’s bribed witnesses confessing to perjury after Marcus's team interrogated them. By noon, the judge dismissed all charges against Emily.
