Chapter 6 - The Web of Deceit Unravels"No," Nathan whispered, shaking his head violently. "No, Olivia told me—she swore to me that she only slept with me after we separated—"
"We separated three years ago, Nathan," I reminded him softly. "Leo is two years and four months old. Do the basic math, genius. He was conceived while we were still legally married—while Olivia was still coming over to our house drinking my wine and helping me plan our anniversary dinner."
Olivia was now openly weeping, her elegant cream coat trembling as she looked at Nathan with a mixture of terror and absolute hatred. "Nathan... you told me Evelyn couldn't have children! You told me your marriage was dead for years!"
"It was dead!" Nathan shrieked, completely losing his composure, abandoning all pretense of corporate dignity as he pointed a shaking finger at Olivia. "And you told me the baby was mine! You trapped me with someone else's kid just so you could lock down my money!"
"Your money?" Olivia screamed back, her voice cracking with hysteria. "What money? The federal government just seized everything! You're broke, Nathan! You're a fraud!"
The security guards at St. Gabriel Medical Center finally stepped forward, moving in a semicircle around the shouting group as families and patients backed away in shock.
"Sir, ma'am, you need to lower your voices or leave the premises immediately," the head security guard instructed, resting a heavy hand on his belt.
"No, wait, officer, look at these documents!" Nathan pleaded, grabbing the guard's arm. "They're harassing me! This is a conspiracy!"
"Mr. Brooks," Marcus said calmly, sliding the documents back into the manila folder and snapping it shut. "Harassment is filing a lawsuit. What we're doing is executing a federal asset freeze and serving you with divorce fraud counter-suits. Oh, and by the way..."
