Chapter 7 - The Descent into MadnessAs if on cue, the sliding glass doors of the hospital entrance parted, and two men in dark suits and windbreakers marked FBI walked briskly into the lobby. They didn't draw weapons, but their presence was unmistakable.

Nathan turned around, saw the federal agents, and watched his entire empire—built on lies, stolen funds, and manufactured superiority—evaporate into thin air in less than ten minutes.

"Nathan Brooks?" the lead agent asked, stopping right in front of my ex-husband.

Nathan couldn't speak. His mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water. He looked at the agents, then back at Olivia, then finally at me, standing tall in my white medical coat, completely untouched by his pathetic display.

"You're coming with us to federal custody to answer charges of wire fraud, grand larceny, and corporate embezzlement," the agent continued, pulling out a pair of steel handcuffs.

"Wait—this is a mistake! My lawyer—I have rights!" Nathan stammered, frantically backing away as the agent stepped closer.

"Your rights were waived the moment you laundered stolen venture capital through offshore accounts," the agent replied coldly, clicking the cuffs around Nathan's expensive suit sleeves.

The crowd of onlookers watched in absolute fascination as the man who had swaggered into the hospital bragging about his son and mocking his ex-wife was dragged backward toward the exit, his expensive shoes squeaking uselessly against the clean hospital floor.

Olivia collapsed onto the reception bench, burying her face in her hands as little Leo began to cry loudly, picking up on the frantic, chaotic energy of the adults around him.

I didn't feel pity for Olivia. She had made her bed, and now she had to lie in it—along with the financial ruin Nathan had dragged her into.
