😱 CHAPTER 10 — THE ATTIC NO ONE HAD EVER OPENED

We thought the story had finally ended.
Until the insurance company requested a complete structural inspection before approving our renovation plans.
The inspector spent nearly an hour in the attic.
Then he shouted my husband's name.
"Ethan... there's something strange up here."
The attic looked ordinary at first.
Dust.
Old beams.
Spiderwebs.
Nothing unusual.
Then the inspector pointed his flashlight toward the highest corner of the roof.
"There."
A section of the ceiling had been built differently from the rest.
Newer nails.
Different wood.
Someone had sealed it decades earlier.
Rada, who had quietly followed us upstairs, suddenly froze.
She didn't bark.
She simply sat beneath that exact spot and stared upward.
My stomach tightened.
The contractor carefully removed a few wooden planks.
Behind them was a narrow storage space.
Inside rested a weathered wooden chest.
Unlike everything else we'd found, this one wasn't hidden to protect evidence.
It was hidden to preserve memories.
Inside were children's drawings.
Family photographs.
Birthday cards.
A tiny pair of baby shoes.
And dozens of cassette tapes labeled in Margaret's handwriting.
One tape read:
"For Tommy's eighteenth birthday."
Another said:
"If I never make it home."
Thomas arrived within an hour.
His hands shook as he held the tapes.
"I've never heard my mother's voice..."
"I don't even remember what she sounded like."
Everyone in the room fell silent.
May you like
Because for the first time in forty years...
Margaret was about to speak again.
