❤️ CHAPTER 14 — RADA'S LAST WALK THROUGH THE HOUSE

Time never stands still.

Rada was nearly twelve years old now.

Her muzzle had turned almost completely gray.

She walked more slowly.

She slept more often.

But every night, without fail, she still made one quiet round through the house before lying beside Lily's bedroom door.

One autumn morning, she didn't ask to go for her usual walk.

Instead, she wandered from room to room.

She paused in the kitchen.

The living room.

The backyard.

Then she climbed the stairs one last time.

She entered the bedroom where everything had begun years before.

She stood in front of the repaired wall for a few moments.

Not barking.

Not growling.

Just looking.

Almost as if she were remembering.

Then she turned, walked over to Lily, gently rested her head against her hand, and lay down peacefully.

That afternoon, surrounded by everyone she loved, Rada quietly closed her eyes for the last time.

Lily cried harder than any of us.

Thomas knelt beside her and whispered,

"Your brave girl didn't just protect your family."

"She gave my mother her voice back."

We buried Rada beneath the maple tree where Margaret had once stood decades earlier.

On the small stone we engraved only one sentence:

"She never stopped protecting the truth."

Every spring, wildflowers bloomed around her resting place.

No one planted them.

Yet somehow, year after year, they returned.
