😱 CHAPTER 5 — THE MAN WHO KNOCKED ON OUR DOOR

News traveled fast.

Far faster than we expected.

Within days, television crews parked outside our house.

Reporters wanted interviews.

Historians wanted access.

Victims' families cried as police began returning jewelry they thought had disappeared forever.

Then...

One rainy evening...

Someone knocked on our front door.

An elderly man stood there holding an old black-and-white photograph.

He introduced himself quietly.

"My name is Thomas Hayes."

Our hearts skipped.

Hayes.

The same last name.

"My mother was Margaret."

He hadn't seen his mother's belongings since he was six years old.

For nearly forty years, he'd believed she had abandoned him.

His father had repeated the same lie his entire childhood.

"She left us," he always said.

Thomas believed it.

Until our discovery proved otherwise.

Tears filled his eyes as detectives handed him Margaret's final notebook.

He carefully turned each fragile page.

Then stopped.

Folded inside was one final letter.

Addressed to him.

"My dearest Tommy...

If you ever read this, it means someone kind finally found the truth.

Please never believe I stopped loving you.

Everything I did...

I did to protect you."

Thomas broke down.

So did everyone else in the room.

Decades of lies disappeared in a single moment.

As he prepared to leave, Thomas bent down beside Rada.

He gently scratched behind her ears.

"I don't know why you chose to protect my mother's secret..."

"...but thank you."

For the first time since moving into the house...

May you like

Rada licked a complete stranger.

Almost as if she had been waiting for him.
