😱 CHAPTER 13 — THE FINAL PACKAGE ARRIVED TWO YEARS LATER

Two years passed.
Life had finally become peaceful.
The reporters stopped coming.
The television crews disappeared.
Our house slowly became just a home again.
Then one rainy afternoon, a delivery truck stopped outside.
The driver handed me a small package with no return address.
Only four handwritten words appeared on the front:
"For Rada, the Hero."
My heart skipped.
Inside was an old leather photo album.
Tucked between the pages was a letter.
It wasn't from Margaret.
It was from an elderly woman named Eleanor Brooks.
She explained that she had once been Margaret's closest friend.
After seeing our story on television, she realized the photographs she had kept hidden for decades finally belonged with Margaret's family.
Thomas came over that evening.
As we turned the pages together, we saw dozens of pictures no one had ever seen before.
Margaret teaching little Tommy to ride a bicycle.
Birthday parties.
Christmas mornings.
Family picnics.
An ordinary life that had been stolen too soon.
Then we reached the final photograph.
Everyone stopped breathing.
It showed Margaret standing in our backyard beneath the old maple tree.
Beside her...
Sat a young German Shepherd.
Thomas stared at the picture for several seconds before whispering,
"My mom always rescued abandoned dogs."
Written on the back of the photograph were eight simple words.
"Dogs always know who tells the truth."
No one spoke after that.
Rada quietly rested her head on Thomas's knee.

For some reason...
That old photograph felt like the final piece of a puzzle that had taken forty years to complete.
