Chapter 6 - THE TWISTED LEGACY

Lily gasped, pulling back behind Alex as Marcus raised the gun, pointing it directly at Alex's head.
"Half-brother?" Alex repeated, the world spinning beneath his feet.
"Our father, Arthur, was a hypocrite," Marcus said bitterly, his tone laced with decades of accumulated venom. "He loved your mother, the aristocratic heiress, and built this empire for you. But my mother was his secret, working-class mistress—thrown aside, given hush money, and left to die in obscurity while you grew up in luxury!"
"That's why you orchestrated everything," Alex realized, the horrific picture finally becoming clear. "You didn't just want the money. You wanted to destroy everything my father built."
"I manipulated Senator Vance and Clara from the very beginning!" Marcus sneered, his eyes wild with vengeance. "I was the one who suggested the poison plan to Clara! I made them believe they were in control, while I set them up to take the fall for your murder! Once you were dead and Clara was arrested, I—as the chief legal representative and secret blood heir—would have inherited full control of the entire corporation!"
"And Julian?" Lily shouted, stepping out from behind Alex, her eyes ablaze with hatred. "My brother discovered your illegal offshore accounts, didn't he?"
"Julian was too smart for his own good," Marcus said coldly. "Just like you, little girl. But don't worry—you'll be joining him in a few seconds."
Marcus pulled back the hammer of the gun. "Goodbye, little brother. Say hello to our father in hell."
CLICK.
Marcus pulled the trigger. But instead of a gunshot, a sharp, electronic chirp sounded.
Marcus frowned, pulling the trigger again. CLICK. CLICK.
"Looking for this?"
Suddenly, the ambient light in the vault turned bright red. The heavy iron door behind Marcus slammed shut with a deafening thud, locking him inside the vault.
From the ceiling speakers, a calm, automated voice chimed: "BIOMETRIC LOCKDOWN INITIATED. THREAT DETECTED. TRANSMITTING LIVE AUDIO AND VIDEO TO FEDERAL AUTHORITIES."
Marcus panicked, whirling around to beat his fists against the sealed iron door. "What is this?! Open the door!"
Alex stepped forward, holding up his own smartphone. On the screen was a live video stream—broadcasting Marcus’s entire confession to millions of viewers worldwide via a global news live-feed, as well as directly to the FBI command center.
"My father knew you existed, Marcus," Alex said, his voice ringing with absolute authority. "He knew about your mother, and he felt overwhelming guilt for how he treated her. That's why he built this vault. It wasn't a bank—it was a trap designed to activate if anyone ever tried to forcibly seize his legacy using violence."
Lily smiled through her tears, holding up a small remote control. "Julian didn't just leave me a key, Marcus. He left me the master override code to activation system inside this vault. We knew you were tailing us from the estate. We led you here."
Sirens began to wail in the distance, cutting through the rainy night outside as dozens of federal tactical vehicles surrounded the abandoned countryside mansion.
Marcus slumped against the iron door, dropping his gun, realization dawning on his broken face. His brilliant, decades-long revenge scheme had crumbled in a matter of minutes.
Alex walked over to the desk, picked up his father’s old photograph, and looked at it one last time before sliding it safely into his jacket. Then, he turned to Lily and offered her his hand.
"Come on, Lily," Alex said softly. "It's over. Let's go home."
