Chapter 3 - The Ambush at SunriseThe bullet didn't hit the window; it shattered the brickwork inches from the frame, spraying razor-sharp concrete shrapnel across the tiny kitchen.

"GET DOWN!" Daniel roared, instantly drawing his sidearm and tackling Rachel and little Lily to the floor behind the heavy wooden dining table.
The private physician screamed, diving behind the sofa as a second high-caliber round punched cleanly through the exterior wall, embedding itself deep into the refrigerator.
Vincent didn't flinch. In a fraction of a second, fueled by the primal instincts of a cornered apex predator and a father who had just recovered his stolen son, Vincent lunged forward. He swept Noah off his feet, dragging the terrified boy down into the safety of the narrow gap between the kitchen counter and the stove.
"Dad! Let me go! What's happening?!" Noah screamed, burying his face in Vincent's heavy wool coat as the sound of splintering wood and chaotic shouting echoed from the hallway outside.
"Stay down, Ethan! Keep your head down!" Vincent barked, pulling his own custom-engraved Sig Sauer P226 from his shoulder holster. His gray-green eyes, usually cold and calculating, were ablaze with a terrifying, demonic fury.
Someone had tipped them off.
How?
They had arrived in unmarked vehicles. The perimeter was secure. Unless... unless the leak wasn't in Hale House. Unless someone inside Vincent’s inner circle had tracked his movements tonight.
"Boss!" Daniel yelled over the din of automatic gunfire echoing from the stairwell outside the apartment door. "We’re compromised! They’re using suppressed tactical rifles! Professional hit squad—at least four men coming up the fire escape, and more blocking the main lobby!"
"Who is it?" Vincent demanded, shielding Noah’s small body entirely with his own broad frame.
"Don't know, but they aren't local street thugs! They’re moving like syndicate ghosts!" Daniel fired three rapid shots through the wooden door as heavy boots slammed against the hallway floorboards outside.
Vincent looked down at Noah. The boy was shaking violently, his small hands clutching the lapels of Vincent's coat.
"Listen to me, Ethan," Vincent said, his voice dropping into a fierce, hypnotic calm that demanded absolute obedience, a trait the boy clearly inherited. "Look at me."
Noah blinked away tears, gazing up at his biological father for the very first time.
"Do you trust Aunt Rachel?" Vincent asked quickly.
"Yes!" Noah sobbed.
"Do you trust me?"
Noah hesitated for a fraction of a second, looking at the silver bracelet on his wrist, and then into Vincent’s fierce, protective eyes. He nodded.
"Good. Daniel will take you, Rachel, and Lily through the back window fire escape down to the armored transport. My men will secure the alley. Do not look back, do not stop running, and keep low."
"And you?" Noah asked, his small voice full of sudden, unexpected terror. "Where are you going?"
Vincent’s lips curled into a cold, dangerous smile that didn't reach his eyes.
"I'm going to find out who thinks they can take my family a second time."
Before Noah could reply, the apartment door burst inward in an explosion of splinters and steel as a flashbang grenade landed squarely on the kitchen floor.

Flash! Bang!
Blinding white light and a deafening shockwave tore through the room, but Vincent was already moving, pushing Noah into Daniel’s waiting arms and stepping directly into the smoke-filled doorway with his weapon raised.
