Chapter 8 - Fire in the CloudsThe night sky erupted in a blinding flash of magnesium flare chaff as the Gulfstream suddenly deployed dual decoy pods from its tail assembly, confusing the incoming heat-seeking missiles.

The two attacking turboprops roared past on either side, expecting an easy, defenseless target. Instead, they found themselves facing an apex predator armed with retaliatory defense systems.
"Target locked on the starboard bogy," the co-pilot shouted over the screaming wind.
"Fire," Vincent commanded.
A dull, heavy thud reverberated through the cabin floorboards as a localized defense missile detached from the wing pylon, streaking through the cloud cover like a falling star.
A fraction of a second later, a brilliant fireball bloomed against the dark canvas of the night sky as the lead cartel aircraft disintegrated into a cloud of burning shrapnel.

The second turboprop, realizing it had walked into a trap, banked violently to the left, diving headfirst into the cloud layer in a desperate attempt to escape.
"Let it run," Vincent said quietly, walking back to his seat. "It has a message to deliver."
