Chapter 3 - The Sanctuary of the Penthouse

Two guards grabbed Bianca by her silk-clad arms. She screamed, kicking and cursing, her perfect hair falling into her face as she was dragged out of the ballroom. The forty guests watched in utter silence, realizing they were witnessing the birth of a bloody turf war.

Lucas did not look back at her. He turned to Nadia, who was trembling so hard she could barely stand.

"Come with me," he said.

Without waiting for her reply, he scooped her up into his arms. Nadia gasped, her hands instinctively clutching his shoulders. He was solid, warm, and smelled of safety—a strange contrast to the terrifying words he had just spoken. He carried her past the stunned guests, up the grand staircase, and straight to his private penthouse suite on the top floor of the mansion, a place no servant was ever allowed to enter.

He laid her gently on the massive leather sofa. He immediately called for the family physician.

"I don't need a doctor," Nadia whispered, her voice shaking. "I'm just... I'm just scared."

"You are carrying the last piece of my brother," Lucas said, kneeling down so he was at eye level with her. His cold, ruthless demeanor seemed to soften slightly, though his eyes remained fiercely intense. "You are safe here, Nadia. No one will ever touch you again."

"Why didn't you tell me?" she asked, tears fresh in her eyes. "Why did you let me work here as a maid? Why did you let me scrub floors while carrying Tomas's baby?"

"Because the Rossi family had eyes everywhere," Lucas explained, his jaw tight. "If they knew Tomas had a pregnant wife, they would have killed you before I could secure the proof. I had to keep you close, under my roof, where my personal guards could watch you without raising suspicion. I needed Bianca to believe she had won, so she would grow careless."

He reached out and gently touched her ruined hair again. "I am sorry I did not protect you from her tonight. That was my failure."

"What happens now?" Nadia asked, clutching her stomach.

Lucas stood up, the warmth in his eyes vanishing, replaced by a cold, murderous resolve. "Now, I burn the Rossi empire to the ground."
