CHAPTER 6 — The Woman Who Stopped Running

Emily grabbed Olivia’s hand and ran to the back door.
But before they could escape, three men stepped from the shadows.
One of them held up both hands.
“We’re not here to hurt you.”
Emily didn’t believe him.
“Then why are you sneaking around my house?”
The man pulled out a federal badge.
“Agent Cole. We’ve been tracking Richard’s network for two years.”
Emily froze.
“Then where is Olivia’s mother?”
Agent Cole’s face hardened.
“Alive. But hidden. We moved her after the attack.”
Olivia burst into tears.
“My mommy’s alive?”
Agent Cole nodded.
“She wanted us to protect you first.”
Emily’s knees nearly gave out.
Then Agent Cole looked at the flash drive in her hand.
“That contains the final evidence we need.”
The next morning, the city woke up to the biggest corruption scandal in its history.
Judge Bennett was arrested inside his chambers.
Three attorneys were taken from their offices.
A police captain was removed in handcuffs.
And Richard Carter—Michael Reeves—was dragged back into court, not as a powerful husband, not as a respected attorney, but as the center of a criminal empire.
This time, Emily didn’t sit behind him as his broken wife.
She sat across from him as the woman who had survived him.
Richard stared at her with hatred.
“You ruined everything.”
Emily leaned forward calmly.
“No, Richard.”
“You built everything on lies.”
“I just opened the door.”
Then the courtroom doors opened.
Olivia walked in holding her mother’s hand.
Richard’s face collapsed.
May you like
Because the little girl he had tried to silence...
Had become the witness who would bury him forever.
