CHAPTER 3 — The Woman Who Sold Her Own Blood

Amanda grabbed Noah’s shoulders.
“Twins?” she whispered. “That’s impossible.”
The old homeless man laughed bitterly.
“That’s what they wanted you to believe.”
Noah stepped back, confused.
“What are you talking about?”
The old man pointed at the little boy hiding behind Noah.
“That child is not your brother.”
Amanda looked down.
The little boy had the same gray eyes.
The same face.
The same birthmark near his wrist.
Her stomach twisted.
The old man continued, “Fifteen years ago, your husband paid a nurse to change the hospital records. You gave birth to twins. One boy was taken from the hospital. The other was kidnapped years later when he was five.”
Amanda felt the world spin.
Her late husband, Richard, had died three years ago.
Everyone called him a grieving father.
A broken man.
A victim.
But suddenly every memory became poison.
The missing police files.
The private investigators who quit too quickly.
The strange insurance payout.
Noah clenched his fists.
“So who am I?”
Amanda’s tears fell harder.
“You’re my son.”
The little boy stepped forward.
“And me?”
The old man lowered his voice.
“He is your other son’s child.”
Amanda froze.
Noah turned pale.
“What?”
Before anyone could speak, black SUVs screeched into the alley.
Men in suits stepped out.
At the center stood Amanda’s mother-in-law, Margaret Carter.
Cold.
Elegant.
Smiling.
“Oh, Amanda,” she said. “You were never supposed to find them.”
Noah pushed the little boy behind him.
Margaret looked at Noah like he was trash.
“My son made one mistake. He let emotion ruin business.”
Amanda’s voice shook.
“You sold my babies?”
Margaret smiled.
“No. I invested them.”
Then she revealed the truth.
The Carter family fortune had been built on illegal adoptions, stolen heirs, and blackmail against wealthy families.
Noah had escaped years ago.
The little boy was the son of Amanda’s other child… a child who had died trying to expose the Carters.
Amanda stepped forward.
For the first time in fifteen years, she wasn’t broken.
She was dangerous.
Margaret ordered her men to grab the boys.
But Noah suddenly pulled a small recorder from his pocket.
The red light was blinking.
Every word had been captured.
Police sirens exploded outside the alley.
Margaret’s smile vanished.
Amanda looked at her and said coldly—
“You didn’t bury my family.”
“You buried yourself.”
As officers dragged Margaret away, Noah finally looked at Amanda.
“Mom?”
Amanda collapsed to her knees and hugged him.
But behind them, the little boy opened his tiny hand.
Inside was another ring.
May you like
And engraved inside it were words Amanda had never written:
Find the third child.
