CHAPTER 4 — The Third Child Was Never Missing… He Was Watching

The courtroom erupted into chaos.

Margaret Carter screamed as federal agents placed her in handcuffs.

Reporters fought to capture every second.

America watched the Carter empire collapse live on television.

Amanda should have felt victorious.

Instead...

She couldn't stop staring at the second silver ring lying in her hand.

Find the third child.

Those four words haunted her.

"There were only twins," Amanda whispered.

"There can't be a third."

Noah slowly shook his head.

"Maybe someone wanted us to believe there were only two."

Three days later...

Federal investigators searched every Carter property.

Secret basements.

Hidden vaults.

Private islands.

Then they found something no one expected.

A sealed room beneath the Carter mansion.

Inside were hundreds of old files.

Each file belonged to a missing child.

At the very back sat one dusty envelope.

Across the front, someone had written in red ink:

PROJECT THREE.

Amanda's hands trembled as she opened it.

Inside was a hospital photograph.

A woman holding three newborn boys.

Amanda nearly stopped breathing.

Three tiny blue bracelets.

Three identical faces.

Three sons.

Someone had cut the third baby out of every official family photograph.

Someone had erased him from history.

Detective Harris looked horrified.

"The hospital records were altered by someone with government access."

Amanda whispered,

"They didn't steal my children..."

"They rewrote my life."

Another document slipped from the folder.

It was a payment ledger.

Every signature belonged to Richard Carter.

Every payment had one purpose.

Erase Child Number Three.

Noah clenched his fists.

"My own father..."

Amanda corrected him.

"No."

"He was never your father."

That night...

Amanda received a text message from an unknown number.

It contained only one sentence.

Stop searching, or you'll lose your sons again.

A second message arrived.

This time...

A photo.

Noah.

Walking alone.

Taken only minutes earlier.

Someone was watching them.

Amanda immediately called Noah.

No answer.

Again.

Nothing.

She checked the house.

Empty.

The front door stood open.

On the kitchen table...

One silver ring.

A fresh drop of blood.

And a note.

If you want him alive... come alone.

Amanda grabbed her car keys without thinking.

But Detective Harris blocked the doorway.

"It's a trap."

Amanda's eyes filled with rage.

"I've already lost my children once."

"I'm not losing them again."

She drove toward the abandoned address printed on the note.

Miles outside the city...

An old orphanage stood in complete darkness.

Every window was broken.

The front gate slowly creaked open by itself.

Amanda stepped inside.

The lights suddenly switched on.

Dozens of children silently stood in the hallway...

Each one wearing the exact same silver ring.

Then a calm voice echoed through the building.

"You finally came..."

Amanda turned toward the staircase.

A man in his early thirties stepped into the light.

He smiled.

Then held up a faded family photo.

It showed Amanda...

Holding three newborn sons.

"I've waited thirty years to meet you..."

May you like

"...Mother."
