CHAPTER 7 — VIVIAN'S LAST BETRAYAL

Julian held his children as though the world might steal them away again.

Emma wrapped both arms around his neck.

Ethan rested his head against his shoulder.

Ellie giggled as Julian kissed the top of her hair.

For one brief moment...

The ballroom forgot the scandal.

Even reporters lowered their cameras.

Then...

A loud voice shattered the silence.

"Nobody leaves!"

The massive wooden doors burst open.

Four men in dark suits entered the ballroom.

Behind them walked a silver-haired attorney carrying a leather briefcase.

The guests stepped aside nervously.

Vivian smiled for the first time in nearly an hour.

"You finally made it."

Julian slowly stood.

"What is this?"

The attorney opened his briefcase and removed a thick folder.

"I represent the Prescott Family Trust."

He glanced toward Clara.

"Mrs. Vivian Prescott has filed an emergency petition requesting temporary custody restrictions concerning these three children."

The ballroom erupted.

"What?"

"She can't do that!"

Vivian lifted her chin proudly.

"I will not allow the Prescott heirs to be raised by a woman who manipulated this family."

Emma clutched Clara's hand.

"Mommy..."

"What's custody?"

Clara knelt beside her.

"It means some people think they can decide where children belong."

Emma frowned.

"But..."

"I already know where I belong."

She hugged her mother tightly.

"I'm staying with Mommy."

Many guests quietly wiped tears from their eyes.

Julian looked at his mother in disbelief.

"You would drag innocent children into this?"

Vivian answered coldly.

"I'm protecting my bloodline."

Julian's expression hardened.

"No."

"You are protecting your pride."

The attorney cleared his throat.

"There is another matter."

He handed Julian a second envelope.

"This morning, Mrs. Prescott amended the Prescott Family Trust."

Julian opened it.

His face slowly turned white.

Every share.

Every voting right.

Every family asset.

Transferred.

Effective immediately.

Removed from Julian.

Placed entirely under Vivian's control.

A clause at the bottom read:

Any biological descendants born outside an approved marriage shall receive no inheritance and no recognition within the Prescott Trust.

Julian looked at his mother.

"You wrote this..."

"...today?"

Vivian nodded without shame.

"I built this family's future."

"I decide who belongs."

Julian laughed bitterly.

"No..."

"You just decided who doesn't."

Without another word, he took the documents...

And tore them in half.

The sound echoed across the silent ballroom.

Gasps filled the room.

Vivian stared in horror.

"You've lost your mind!"

Julian looked directly into her eyes.

"No."

"I finally found it."

He removed the Prescott family signet ring from his finger.

The ring every Prescott heir had worn for generations.

He placed it on the altar.

"You can keep your fortune."

"You can keep your hotels."

"You can keep your last name."

Then he gently took Emma's tiny hand.

"I already have the greatest inheritance I'll ever receive."

"My children."

The guests broke into spontaneous applause.

Not for wealth.

Not for status.

But for the man who had finally chosen love over legacy.

Vivian realized something terrifying.

For the first time in her life...

Money wasn't winning.

Later that evening...

As reporters surrounded the estate...

A black SUV quietly pulled into the parking lot.

An elderly man stepped out.

Gray beard.

Simple navy suit.

Sharp eyes.

He introduced himself to Julian.

"My name is Arthur Lawson."

"I'm with the State Attorney General's Office."

Julian frowned.

"What does this have to do with today?"

Arthur held up a warrant.

May you like

"It has everything to do with your mother."

Vivian's smile disappeared.
