CHAPTER 8 — THE SECRET CRIMES THAT DESTROYED THE PRESCOTT EMPIRE

Arthur Lawson walked slowly into the ballroom.

Behind him came investigators carrying sealed evidence boxes.

The atmosphere changed instantly.

This was no longer family drama.

It had become a criminal investigation.

Vivian forced a smile.

"There must be some misunderstanding."

Arthur calmly replied,

"We've spent eighteen months investigating Prescott Holdings."

Julian stared at him.

"Eighteen months?"

Arthur nodded.

"We were waiting for one final witness."

He looked toward Dr. Samuel Reeves.

"And today..."

"...he finally came forward."

The investigators placed dozens of documents across the reception table.

Financial records.

Bank transfers.

Private emails.

Security logs.

Then Arthur opened the final folder.

"We have evidence that Mrs. Vivian Prescott committed multiple felonies."

The room fell completely silent.

"Bribery."

"Evidence tampering."

"Mail interception."

"Corporate fraud."

"Witness intimidation."

"And obstruction of justice."

Every accusation struck like thunder.

Vivian laughed nervously.

"This is ridiculous."

Arthur calmly pressed a button on a remote.

A projector illuminated the ballroom wall.

Security footage appeared.

The date:

Four years earlier.

Guests watched Vivian entering Julian's corporate office after hours.

She unlocked his private mailbox.

Removed several envelopes.

One of them clearly displayed Clara's handwriting.

The next clip showed Vivian feeding those letters into a paper shredder.

Julian couldn't breathe.

"You destroyed them..."

Vivian remained silent.

Another recording played.

It showed Vivian meeting with a laboratory employee.

A large envelope filled with cash slid across the table.

Then came a bank statement matching the payment.

The ballroom exploded with shocked whispers.

Brooke covered her mouth.

"I almost married into this..."

Arthur continued.

"We also interviewed former employees."

One by one, former assistants, security officers, and accountants appeared on the screen in recorded statements.

Each described years of intimidation, manipulation, and illegal orders.

The empire Vivian had spent decades building...

Had been held together by fear.

Arthur finally stepped toward Vivian.

"Mrs. Prescott..."

"You are under arrest."

Two officers approached.

For the first time in decades...

Vivian Prescott looked truly frightened.

She turned desperately toward Julian.

"Tell them!"

"I did all this for you!"

Julian's eyes remained cold.

"No."

"You did it for yourself."

The officers placed handcuffs around Vivian's wrists.

As they led her toward the exit...

She stopped.

She turned one last time toward the children.

Emma looked at her quietly.

Not with anger.

Not with fear.

Only sadness.

The little girl softly asked,

"Grandma..."

"Were you ever happy?"

Vivian froze.

She opened her mouth.

But no words came.

Because after a lifetime spent chasing power...

A four-year-old had asked the one question she couldn't answer.

The ballroom remained silent as Vivian was escorted outside.

The flashing police lights reflected across the mansion windows.

The Prescott empire had fallen.

But as Julian held Clara's hand for the first time in four years and looked at the three children smiling up at them...

He realized something extraordinary.

His family's true future...

May you like

Had never been waiting inside that mansion.

It had been waiting outside the gates all along.
