CHAPTER 4 — The Man Behind the Smile

Adrian slowly lifted his eyes.

"Who hurt you, Mom?"

Margaret’s lips trembled.

Before she could answer, the hotel owner suddenly tried to leave.

Adrian blocked him.

"Going somewhere?"

The owner forced a laugh.

"This is ridiculous."

But Margaret whispered,

"He was your father’s business partner."

The room froze again.

"He forged papers after your father died," she said. "He took the hotel, erased my name, and told me if I ever spoke… my son would disappear too."

Adrian’s face went cold.

For fifteen years, he thought his mother had abandoned him.

But she had vanished to protect him.

The hotel owner shouted,

"She’s lying!"

Then the young waitress stepped forward, holding the phone she had secretly recorded with.

"No, she’s not."

Her video had captured everything.

The threats.

The panic.

The confession he made while trying to escape.

Police sirens echoed from below.

As officers entered the ballroom, Margaret finally stood tall.

The old cleaner everyone laughed at was gone.

In her place stood the real queen of the building.

And when Adrian hugged her, she whispered:

"I didn’t lose my son."

Then she looked at the arrested man and smiled.

"I only waited for the right night to take everything back."
