CHAPTER 3 — THE BRIDE WHO OWNED EVERYTHING

The ballroom became colder than a courtroom.
Richard removed one final document from the briefcase.
“This is Jonathan Whitmore’s original will.”
He placed it in Sophia’s hands.
“His entire estate was left to his daughter.”
Ethan whispered, “Sophia…”
Margaret suddenly screamed.
“She’s lying! That fortune belongs to my family!”
Richard’s voice turned sharp.
“No, Mrs. Whitmore. You stole it.”
The guests gasped again.
Photos fell from the envelope—old pictures of baby Sophia, Jonathan Whitmore holding her, and Margaret standing behind them with the same cold smile she wore today.
Sophia finally understood.
Margaret had not tried to stop the wedding because Sophia was poor.
She tried to stop it because Sophia was the one person who could take everything back.
Police officers entered the ballroom.
Margaret’s confidence shattered.
“You can’t arrest me at my son’s wedding!”
Sophia stepped forward.
“No, Margaret.”
Her voice was calm, but powerful.
“This was never your son’s wedding.”
She lifted the will.
“This was the day you returned what you stole.”
Margaret looked at Ethan, desperate.
“Tell them! Tell them I’m your mother!”
Ethan’s eyes filled with pain.
“You were my mother…”
Then he looked at Sophia.
“But today, I saw who you really are.”
The officers took Margaret away as the guests watched in stunned silence.
Sophia turned to Ethan.
“I don’t need the money. I only needed the truth.”
Ethan held her hands.
“And I don’t care if you’re rich, poor, or the rightful heir to everything.”
He smiled through tears.
“I just want to marry you.”
The officiant cleared his throat.
“Then… shall we continue?”
The guests stood.
The music began again.
And the wedding Margaret tried to destroy became the most unforgettable wedding New York had ever seen.
But just as Sophia was about to say “I do”…

Richard leaned close and whispered one final secret:
“Your father may still be alive.”
