CHAPTER 5 — The Billion-Dollar Trap

The wedding ended without a honeymoon.

Within one hour...

Sophia...

Ethan...

Richard...

and federal investigators were flying aboard the Whitmore private jet.

Their destination:

An abandoned steel factory outside Pittsburgh.

According to investigators, someone had intercepted Jonathan while he was secretly traveling to attend the wedding.

The kidnappers demanded only one thing.

The Whitmore inheritance.

"No police."

"No FBI."

"Bring the inheritance documents."

"Or Jonathan dies."

Ethan looked at Sophia.

"It's a trap."

Sophia answered quietly,

"I know."

"But I'm going anyway."

As night fell...

they entered the abandoned factory.

Rows of broken machinery disappeared into darkness.

Suddenly...

lights exploded on.

More than twenty armed men surrounded them.

At the center stood a tall man in a black suit.

He slowly applauded.

"Beautiful."

"After twenty-eight years..."

"...the Whitmore family is finally together again."

Sophia frowned.

"Who are you?"

The man smiled.

"My name is Victor Kane."

"The man your father trusted more than anyone."

Richard whispered,

"Oh no..."

Sophia looked confused.

"You know him?"

Richard's voice shook.

"He wasn't Jonathan's business partner..."

"He was his younger brother."

The entire room froze.

Another Whitmore.

Another heir.

Another betrayal.

Victor smiled wider.

"You've spent twenty-eight years looking at the wrong villain."

Then he pointed toward Margaret.

May you like

"She didn't try to kill Jonathan."

"I did."
