CHAPTER 2 — The Woman They Tried to Bury Alive

The moment the guards left, Margaret locked every door in the morgue.
Evelyn struggled to breathe.
"They poisoned me," she whispered.
Margaret stared in disbelief.
"What are you talking about?"
"My drink..."
"My fiancé switched the champagne."
Tears streamed down Evelyn's face.
"He told everyone he loved me..."
"But he wanted the crown."
Margaret's hands shook.
She secretly checked Evelyn's pulse.
Weak...
But alive.
The official death certificate had been signed far too quickly.
Someone powerful had ordered it.
Just then, Margaret heard footsteps outside again.
This time...
Not guards.
Doctors.
Voices echoed through the hallway.
"The prince wants the body released immediately."
"There will be no autopsy."
Margaret suddenly understood.
This wasn't a medical mistake.
It was murder.
She rushed Evelyn into a hidden storage chamber beneath the morgue—a forgotten room built decades earlier for emergency disasters.
As the heavy steel door closed...
The morgue doors burst open upstairs.
Prince Adrian himself walked in.
His perfectly tailored black suit hid his growing impatience.
He smiled politely.
"I've come to say goodbye to my beloved fiancée."
Margaret forced herself to smile back.
"The body is being prepared."
Adrian slowly stepped closer.
His eyes narrowed.
Then he asked a question that made Margaret's heart nearly stop.
"If she's really dead..."
"Why is there a heartbeat monitor missing from this room?"
Margaret realized one horrifying truth.
He hadn't come to collect a body.
He had come...

To make absolutely certain Evelyn would never breathe again.
To be continued...
