Chapter 14 — The Secret Inside the Bracelet
The boy refused to tell anyone his name.
For two days he barely spoke.
Doctors confirmed he was dehydrated, exhausted, and frightened, but otherwise unharmed.
Emily stayed with him whenever she could.
On the third morning, she noticed something unusual.
A leather bracelet wrapped tightly around his wrist.
Carved into the metal clasp was a familiar symbol.
A black falcon.
Emily's heart skipped.
Daniel immediately recognized it too.
"Victor Kane."
"But Kane's organization was dismantled years ago."
Inspector Amina arrived within hours.
She carefully examined the bracelet.
"This isn't jewelry."
She pressed a hidden latch.
The bracelet opened.
Inside was a tiny waterproof memory card.
Everyone stared in disbelief.
The files contained satellite maps, financial records, coded communications, and thousands of names connected to illegal wildlife trafficking.
"This is enough to expose every remaining member of the network," Amina whispered.
Emily looked at the frightened child.
"How did you get this?"
The boy lowered his head.
"My dad..."
He stopped speaking.
Emily waited patiently.
"He drove helicopters."
"They found out he wanted to leave."
"He hid this on me before telling me to run."
A heavy silence settled over the room.
The boy finally revealed his name.
"Noah."
Outside, rain began falling once again.
