Chapter 5 — The Men Who Hunted Lions

Two weeks later, strange things began happening around the reserve.

A GPS collar disappeared.

A surveillance drone was shot from the sky.

Then one of the rangers failed to report for duty.

Daniel found his abandoned truck at sunrise.

The windshield was shattered.

Radio destroyed.

No sign of the ranger.

The park immediately closed to tourists.

Emily couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching her.

One evening, while driving back from the clinic, she noticed headlights following her along the dirt road.

They stayed behind her for nearly ten miles.

When she reached the ranger station, the vehicle disappeared.

The next morning, Daniel received terrible news.

Another lion had been found dead.

Its claws had been removed.

Its teeth were gone.

Emily fought back tears.

"This isn't hunting," she whispered.

"It's slaughter."

The reserve launched an emergency patrol.

Hidden cameras were placed throughout the area.

Three nights later, one camera captured masked men carrying rifles fitted with silencers.

They weren't ordinary poachers.

They moved like trained professionals.

Their leader unfolded a photograph.

It was Emily.

One sentence was written across the back.

She can identify the pride. Don't let her interfere again.

Daniel's face turned pale.

"They're coming for you."

Emily refused to leave.

"If they're hunting these lions because of me..."

"...then I'm staying."

That night, the reserve lost all radio contact with Patrol Team Three.
