Chapter 6 - THE FINAL KISS (THE END)

Hook: The building was collapsing, the timer was ticking—but the final twist changed everything.

"Don't do it, Elena," Adrian said, his voice deadly quiet. "You press that button, and you die first."

"I'm already dead, Adrian! The moment you walk out of here with that key, my life is forfeit!" Elena cried, her finger hovering over the red button.

Mara didn't look at the detonator. She looked at the digital tablet her father had left behind. On the black screen, a small, blinking blue light had appeared after the video ended.

A transmitter.

Her father hadn't just left a confession. He had left a trap.

"Adrian," Mara whispered, grabbing his arm. "Look at the screen."

In tiny, glowing letters below the blue light, it read: TRANSMITTING TO ALL SYNDICATE CHANNELS LIVE.

Every boss, every soldier, and every ally in the entire East Coast syndicate had just watched Arthur Bell’s confession. They had just heard Elena admit to conspiring with a traitor to overthrow the Vale family, and they had just heard her admit to trying to destroy the very empire they all worked to protect.

Elena’s phone began to ring frantically. She looked down at the screen. It was the Council of Elders.

She answered it, her hand shaking. "Hello?"

A cold, elderly voice spoke through the speaker, loud enough for everyone in the vault to hear: "Elena Vale. You have betrayed the family. Your assets are seized. Your men are ordered to stand down. You are no longer one of us. Adrian... clean up your house."

The line went dead.

Elena’s face drained of all color. The detonator slipped from her fingers, clattering uselessly against the marble floor. She fell to her knees, realizing she had lost everything in a single, televised moment.

"My father always was three steps ahead of everyone," Mara said softly, looking at the tablet.

Adrian stepped forward, picking up the detonator and pocketing it. He signaled the guards waiting at the entrance. "Take her away. She will face the council's justice."

As Elena was dragged out, screaming and cursing, the vault fell silent once more.

Mara looked at Adrian. "So... what happens to us now? My father’s letter said I own the vault. But I don't want your empire, Adrian. I just wanted to survive."

Adrian walked closer to her, stopping just inches away, echoing the position they had been in on the street corner of Mercer Street. The cold, ruthless crime boss looked down at her, but his eyes were no longer cold. They held a strange, burning intensity.

"Your father gave you the decryption key," Adrian said, his voice low and husky. "Which means you hold my life, and my entire empire, in your hands. You could ruin me tomorrow."

"I won't," Mara said. "I saved you once. I'm not going to destroy you now."

"Then we have a problem," Adrian murmured, his hand gently rising to cup her cheek. His touch was surprisingly warm. "Because according to your father’s will, we are partners. And I don't let my partners walk away."

"Is that a threat, Mr. Vale?" Mara teased, her heart skipping a beat.

"It’s a promise," Adrian whispered.

He leaned in, and this time, there were no snipers. There were no red dots, no rushing adrenaline of a ticking bomb, and no audience of armed men.

When his lips met hers, it wasn't to block a bullet. It was the beginning of a reign.
