CHAPTER 3 — The Blood in Car 9

Sophie stood frozen in the doorway.

The blood on the floor was fresh.

Ethan’s gold wedding ring lay in the middle of it, shining under the dim carriage light like a warning.

Then a weak voice came from behind the luggage rack.

“Don’t… scream.”

Sophie rushed forward.

The old mechanic was there, badly injured, pressing one hand against his side.

“He knows,” the man whispered. “Your husband knows I saw him.”

Sophie’s lips trembled.

“Who helped him?”

The mechanic grabbed her wrist.

“Not who… what.”

He pointed toward the end of the carriage, where a small hidden camera blinked red above the ceiling vent.

“He’s been watching you since you boarded.”

Before Sophie could answer, the carriage door slid open.

Ethan stepped inside.

His white shirt was clean.

His smile was calm.

But in his hand…

May you like

He held the mechanic’s missing keycard.

“Sophie,” he said softly, “you should’ve stayed in bed.”
