CHAPTER 4 â The Husbandâs Final Mistake

Ethan locked the carriage door behind him.
Then he looked at the injured mechanic and sighed.
âYou shouldâve minded your own business.â
Sophie backed away, shaking.
âWhy are you doing this?â
Ethan laughed.
âBecause you were never my wife. You were my ticket.â
Then he revealed the cruel truth.
He had married her only because her grandfatherâs will would unlock a billion-dollar trust once she had a legal spouse. After her death, Ethan would control everything.
But Sophie suddenly stopped crying.
She reached into her coat pocket and pulled out a tiny silver device.
Ethanâs smile disappeared.
The mechanic had slipped it to her with the note.
A recorder.
Every word Ethan just said had been captured.
At that exact moment, police officers burst through the carriage door.
The old mechanic wasnât just a railway worker.
He was a retired federal investigator hired by Sophieâs grandfather before his death.
And Sophieâs grandfather had never trusted Ethan.
As officers dragged Ethan away, he screamed that he still had the will.
But Sophie gave him one last look.
Then she whispered:
âMy grandfather changed the will yesterday.â
Ethan froze.
Sophie stepped closer.
âHe left everything to the child Iâm carrying.â
And that was when Ethan realizedâŠ
May you like
The woman he tried to throw off the train wasnât just his wife.
She was carrying the only heir he could never touch.
