CHAPTER 2 — The Letter Was Never Meant to Be Found

Emily slowly unfolded the yellowed paper.
Daniel suddenly lunged toward her.
"Don't read it!"
But she was already looking at the first sentence.
Her heart stopped.
If you're reading this... it means I never got the chance to tell you the truth about Daniel.
The letter wasn't written by Daniel.
It was signed by the woman in the photograph.
Her name was Sophia.
Emily's hands shook harder with every line.
Sophia wrote that she and Daniel had been deeply in love years before he ever met Emily.
They had planned a wedding.
Bought a home.
Dreamed about children.
Then...
Just two weeks before the ceremony...
Sophia disappeared.
No goodbye.
No explanation.
Everyone believed she had abandoned him.
Even Daniel.
Tears filled Emily's eyes as she continued.
But the next paragraph changed everything.
I didn't leave because I stopped loving him. Someone made sure I disappeared.
Emily looked up.
Daniel wasn't trying to hide anymore.
He looked broken.
"I searched for her for two years," he whispered.
"I thought she chose someone else."
Emily continued reading.
Sophia revealed she had discovered a financial conspiracy involving powerful people connected to Daniel's family's company.
To silence her...
Someone had forced her to disappear forever.
At the bottom of the page was one final sentence.
Daniel... if you're alive... never trust anyone carrying the Harrington name. They destroyed our lives once. They'll come back for you again.
Silence filled the apartment.
Daniel slowly sank into a chair.
"I burned everything that reminded me of her," he said quietly.
"I swear I never knew that letter existed."
Emily stared at the shattered frame.
Then something caught her eye.
Tucked beneath the broken glass...
There was another item.
A tiny brass key.
Attached to it was a faded luggage tag with only one handwritten message:
Locker 217. Union Station.
Neither of them realized...
Someone standing across the street was watching their apartment through a camera lens.
And the moment Emily picked up that key...
The watcher smiled.
May you like
Because the game they thought had ended years ago...
Had only just begun.
