CHAPTER 3 — Locker 217

The next morning, Emily and Daniel drove to Union Station in silence.

Neither of them trusted the other completely anymore.

Daniel kept glancing at the rearview mirror.

Emily noticed.

“Are we being followed?”

Daniel didn’t answer.

That was answer enough.

Locker 217 stood at the end of a dim hallway, half-hidden behind an old vending machine. Emily pushed the brass key inside.

Click.

The door opened.

Inside was a black leather notebook, a flash drive, and a baby bracelet engraved with one name:

Lily Harrington.

Emily’s blood ran cold.

“Harrington?” she whispered.

Daniel stepped back like he had seen a ghost.

“That was Sophia’s last name.”

Emily opened the notebook.

The first page had only one sentence:

Daniel was not the target. His child was.

Emily looked up slowly.

“Daniel… did Sophia have a baby?”

Daniel’s face collapsed.

“I never knew.”

Before he could say another word, Emily’s phone rang.

Unknown number.

She answered.

A woman’s voice whispered:

“Leave the station now. They know you found it.”

Then the line went dead.

At that exact moment, every light in the hallway flickered out.
