CHAPTER 6 — The DNA Test
Emily noticed the change in Daniel's face.
"What is it?"
Daniel silently handed her the phone.
She read the message.
Then looked at him in disbelief.
"You don't actually believe this..."
"I don't know what to believe anymore."
Emily's eyes filled with tears.
After everything they had survived together...
One anonymous message had planted a seed of doubt.
Before either of them could speak again, Lily interrupted.
"My mother expected this."
She opened the leather notebook to its final pages.
Inside was a sealed envelope labeled:
ONLY OPEN IF THEY TURN AGAINST EACH OTHER.
Emily carefully broke the seal.
Inside were three items.
A family photograph.
A hospital record.
And...
A DNA report.
Daniel unfolded the document.
His hands began shaking uncontrollably.
The report confirmed one heartbreaking truth.
Daniel was Lily's biological father.
He looked at Lily with tears streaming down his face.
"I missed your entire life..."
Lily embraced him for the first time.
But Emily noticed something else.
At the bottom of the DNA report...
Another name appeared under the section marked "Secondary Match."
It wasn't Daniel.
It wasn't Sophia.
It was...
Emily Carter.
Emily frowned.
"That's impossible."
Daniel stared at her in shock.
"Why would your DNA be connected to Sophia's file?"
Before anyone could answer...
The station's television screens suddenly switched on by themselves.
Every screen displayed the same live security video.
Margaret Harrington stepped in front of the camera and smiled coldly.
"Emily..."
"You've spent your entire life searching for the truth."
She paused.
Then delivered the sentence that shattered everyone's world.
