Chapter 3 - THE BRIDGE OF REVENGE

Headline Hook: Trapped On A Bridge By 20 Armed Mercenaries! She Pushed One Button And Changed History!

The rain began to pour, heavy drops splashing against the tinted windows of the trapped SUV. Outside, twenty armed mercenaries slowly advanced, their laser sights painting red dots across the vehicle's body.

"Elena Sterling!" the leader shouted again through the megaphone. "You have ten seconds! Give us the child! The Sterling bloodline ends tonight!"

Inside the car, Leo was trembling, hugging Elena’s waist. "Mommy... I'm scared."

"Shh, my sweet boy," Elena whispered, kissing his forehead softly. "Close your eyes and count to ten. When you open them, it will all be over."

Leo nodded obediently and buried his face into her lap, closing his eyes.

Elena looked up at Julian. "Do it."

Julian flipped the red switch on the remote.

Instantly, the dark night sky above the bridge lit up. The thunderous roar of helicopter blades shattered the silence as three massive, unmarked black military stealth helicopters descended from the clouds, hovering directly over the bridge. High-powered floodlights blasted down, blinding the mercenaries below.

"What the hell?!" the mercenary leader yelled, shielding his eyes.

Before the gunmen could fire a single shot, dozens of elite Sterling private security operators repelled down cables from the helicopters. They hit the pavement with practiced precision. Within less than fifteen seconds, sound-suppressed gunfire echoed across the bridge.

Pft-pft-pft!

One by one, the mercenaries collapsed to the ground, disarmed and neutralized with non-lethal shock rounds. The entire enemy team was wiped out before they even knew what hit them.

The leader of the mercenaries tried to run back to his truck, but Julian stepped out of the SUV, pulled a sleek stun-gun, and fired. The leader collapsed onto the wet pavement, twitching uncontrollably.

Elena stepped out of the car, carrying Leo wrapped safely in her cashmere coat so he couldn't see the violence. She walked calmly toward the fallen mercenary leader, the heel of her boot clicking sharply against the wet asphalt.

She stood over him as he groaned in pain.

"You said Lord Vane sent you?" Elena asked calmly.

The leader coughed, laughing weakly through his mask. "You... you think you're smart, Elena? Old man Vane thinks you killed his son Arthur! He wants your kid... he wants his grandson back at the Sterling mansion! You're nothing but a murderer to him!"

Elena's eyes narrowed. Lord Vane Sterling—her late husband’s ruthless father. The patriarch of the family had always believed that Elena married Arthur for money, and when Arthur died in that tragic car crash two years ago, Vane blamed Elena entirely.

"Vane didn't send you to rescue Leo," Elena said softly, analyzing the man's words. "If Vane wanted his grandson, he would have sent the family lawyers or his personal guard. He wouldn't send mercenaries wearing the Broken Crown tattoo."

The mercenary leader's eyes widened in sudden panic. "How... how did you..."

"You aren't working for my father-in-law," Elena declared, leaning down closer. "You're working for someone inside the Sterling family who wants Vane and me to destroy each other. Who paid you?"

The mercenary snapped his mouth shut, refusing to speak.

Julian walked up, holding a tablet. "Ma'am, we just traced the offshore bank account that wired funds to this mercenary group one hour ago."

"And?" Elena asked.

"The transfer came directly from Victoria Sterling," Julian revealed. "Your late husband’s stepmother."

Elena’s lips curled into a cold, lethal smile. Victoria Sterling—the snake who had spent years trying to put her own biological son on the throne of the Sterling empire.

"Victoria wants Leo dead so her son inherits the family estate," Elena said. "She used Vivian tonight to draw me out, and then used these fake mercenaries to make me think Vane was coming for my son."

Elena looked down at the mercenary leader. "Take them all to our private facility. Make sure they sing to the federal prosecutors."

"Yes, Madam Sterling," Julian bowed. "Where shall we go now?"

Elena looked toward the glowing skyline of the city, where the massive Sterling Tower stood tall against the dark sky.

"To the Sterling Manor," Elena said, her voice filled with absolute authority. "It's time to pay my dear mother-in-law a visit."
