Chapter 5 - THE UNSEEN ENEMY

Headline Hook: She Took Over A Trillion-Dollar Empire In 24 Hours! But Her Husband’s Secret Will Shock You!

Within forty-eight hours of her explosive return, Elena Sterling officially took the throne as the Supreme CEO of the Sterling Luxury Group.

The news swept across the globe like a wildfire. Headlines dominated every newspaper and social media network: “FROM RETAIL WORKER TO TRILLION-DOLLAR HEIRESS: THE RETURN OF ELENA STERLING!” “VIVIAN CROSS BRAND ENTIRELY BANKRUPT!” “STERLING FAMILY CLEANS HOUSE AFTER ATTEMPTED MURDER EXPOSED!”

Inside the highest floor of the Sterling Executive Tower, Elena sat behind a massive black marble desk. She wore a tailored crimson suit. Leo sat in a cozy corner of the office, happily drawing pictures with color pencils while two top-tier security guards stood watch outside the bulletproof glass.

Julian walked in, carrying a thick black binder stamped with a red "TOP SECRET" seal.

"Madam Sterling," Julian said, placing the file on her desk. "We have finished auditing Arthur’s private personal vaults—the ones he kept hidden even from his father."

Elena looked up. "Did you find out why the Broken Crown Syndicate targeted him two years ago?"

"It’s worse than we thought, Elena," Julian said softly, dropping his formal tone for a moment out of sheer concern. "Arthur wasn't killed just because Victoria wanted his inheritance. Arthur was killed because he discovered the syndicate's true leader."

Elena opened the file. Inside were photos, encrypted code transcripts, and transaction documents dating back a decade.

As she flipped through the pages, her heart pounded faster and faster.

"The Broken Crown Syndicate isn't just a criminal organization," Elena read aloud, her voice trembling. "It’s a secret alliance formed by the five wealthiest families in the country... including our long-time business partners, the Vance family?!"

Elena froze. She slowly raised her eyes to look at Julian.

Julian Vance. Her trusted advisor. Her right-hand man who had stood by her side for two years.

Julian didn't flinch. He remained standing, his face completely emotionless.

Elena’s hand slowly moved toward the hidden silent alarm under her desk. "Julian... your family is part of the syndicate?"

"Don't push the button, Elena," Julian said quietly. "If you push that button, the sniper on the building across the street will fire through the window."

Elena glanced sideways. A faint red laser dot was hovering right over Leo’s drawing pad on the floor.

Elena's blood turned to ice. She instantly pulled her hand back from the button, shielding her panic. "Julian... I trusted you. You helped me destroy Vivian! You helped me expose Victoria!"

Julian let out a soft, regretful sigh.

"Vivian was an annoying fly, Elena. Victoria was an incompetent fool," Julian said coldly. "My family used you to get rid of them. Victoria was stealing from the syndicate, so we let you destroy her. You did our dirty work for us."

"And Arthur?" Elena demanded, tears of rage brimming in her eyes. "Did you kill Arthur too?!"

"Arthur found out that my father was using Sterling Group's shipping lines to traffic illegal weapons and black-market money," Julian confessed smoothly. "Arthur was going to expose us. We gave him a chance to join us, but he refused. He died because he was too noble."

Julian stepped closer to the desk, leaning in.

"And now, Elena, you have the same choice," Julian sneered. "Sign over 51% of Sterling Group’s voting shares to the Vance family today. Do it, and you and Leo get to live comfortably in exile on a private island. Refuse... and Leo won't live to see his seventh birthday."

Elena looked down at the red laser dot dancing across her son's innocent little back. Her hands clenched into tight fists until her knuckles turned white.

"You think you've won, Julian?" Elena whispered, her voice dangerously calm.

"I know I've won," Julian smiled wickedly. "You're trapped in your own office. Sign the papers."

Suddenly, little Leo looked up from his drawing pad, holding a brightly colored crayon drawing.

"Mommy," Leo said in a sweet, clear voice. "Is the red light on my paper part of the game?"

Elena looked at her son, then looked straight into Julian's smug eyes.

May you like

"No, Leo," Elena said, her lips curving into a terrifying, fearless smile. "It's not a game. It's a trap."

Before Julian could react, Elena grabbed heavy crystal glass paperweight from her desk and slammed it straight into the reinforced glass window behind her!
