Chapter 2 – The Secret Hidden Inside the Red Barn

The SUVs stopped only a few feet from Lily.

Men in expensive suits stepped out, their polished shoes looking absurd against the dusty ranch ground.

One man smiled.

It wasn't a friendly smile.

"We're here to purchase the property."

Samuel quietly whispered,

"Don't answer them."

The stranger removed a folder from his briefcase.

"The ranch belongs to us now."

Lily frowned.

"No."

"It belonged to my father."

The man smirked.

"Your father signed everything over before he disappeared."

He handed her several documents.

Every signature looked genuine.

Even Samuel seemed shaken.

But something felt wrong.

The stranger glanced toward the old red barn.

His expression changed instantly.

"There it is."

For the first time...

The businessmen ignored the house.

Ignored the horses.

Ignored the land.

They cared only about the barn.

Lily suddenly remembered Samuel's warning.

Never let anyone open it.

That night, after everyone left, Samuel handed Lily an old iron key hidden inside the silver pocket watch.

"He wanted you to have this."

Together, they quietly entered the red barn under the cover of darkness.

The building looked abandoned.

Broken tools.

Dust.

Spiderwebs.

Nothing unusual...

Until Lily noticed strange scratches beneath an old hay wagon.

They pushed it aside.

A hidden wooden trapdoor appeared.

Below it...

A narrow staircase disappeared into darkness.

Lily lit an old lantern.

As they descended, the air became colder.

At the bottom waited a small underground room.

Inside were dozens of metal boxes.

Family journals.

Property deeds.

Photographs.

And one sealed envelope addressed only to Lily.

With trembling hands, she opened it.

Inside was a single handwritten sentence.

"If you're reading this... someone betrayed me from inside our own family."

Samuel froze.

Because he immediately recognized the handwriting.

It wasn't written on the day Lily's father disappeared.

It had been written...

two days later.

Which meant only one thing.

The man everyone believed was dead...

had still been alive.

And whoever betrayed him...

May you like

might already be living inside Lily's own home.

End of Chapter 2... The biggest betrayal has only just begun.
