Chapter 7 – The Truth About Lily

The countdown had already begun.
60...
The voice outside remained calm.
Cold.
Almost emotionless.
Lily's father locked the front door, though he knew it wouldn't matter.
"They're coming in no matter what," he whispered.
The sheriff checked the windows.
Every escape route was blocked.
Dozens of armed men surrounded the ranch, their silver wolf emblems glinting beneath the floodlights.
Samuel loaded his rifle.
"If we fight, we don't last five minutes."
Lily stared at her father.
"Who are these people?"
He took a deep breath.
"They're called the Silver Wolves."
"They're not just criminals."
"They erase families."
"They erase history."
"And they've been hunting us for twenty-five years."
Lily felt the room spin.
"What do they want from me?"
Her father reached into his jacket and pulled out a tiny brass key hanging from a leather cord.
It wasn't ordinary.
Tiny numbers had been engraved into its surface.
He placed it in Lily's hand.
"This isn't a key to a door."
"It's a key to a safety deposit vault."
"Inside is something your grandfather died protecting."
Before Lily could ask another question—
BOOM!
The front door exploded inward.
Smoke filled the living room.
Masked men stormed inside.
The sheriff fired first.
Samuel covered the staircase.
Bullets ripped through the walls as furniture shattered around them.
Lily's father grabbed her hand.
"This way!"
He pulled her toward a hidden passage behind the fireplace.
Just as they reached it—
A familiar voice echoed through the smoke.
"Going somewhere, little brother?"
Everyone froze.
Standing in the ruined doorway...
wearing an elegant black coat...
was Aunt Eleanor.
She looked perfectly calm.
Not a strand of hair out of place.
She slowly applauded.
"I must admit..."
"You survived much longer than I expected."
Lily stepped forward.
"Why?"
Eleanor smiled sadly.
"Because your father made the biggest mistake of his life."
"He believed family could never betray him."
She pulled a small remote control from her pocket.
"Now..."
"It's time to finish what I started."
She pressed the button.
Deep beneath the ranch...
A deafening rumble shook the ground.
The hidden tunnels began collapsing.
Dust poured through the ceiling.
Samuel shouted,
"The whole ranch is coming down!"
Lily's father pushed her toward the secret passage.
"Run!"
"But what about you?"
He smiled through tears.
"No matter what happens..."
"Never let anyone open Vault 117."
Before Lily could reach him—
The floor cracked apart.
Her father disappeared into the collapsing darkness.
"DAD!"
Lily screamed as the ground swallowed him whole.
The tunnel collapsed between them.
Silence.
Then...
A single voice crackled through the emergency radio clipped to the sheriff's belt.
"This is Agent Mason... We finally found Subject L."
There was a long pause.
Then the voice continued:
"Forget the father."
May you like
"The girl is the real target."
