CHAPTER 5 — The Chairwoman Walked In… And the Entire Carter Family Begged

The massive glass doors of the private bank slid open.
Rain poured across the marble entrance.
Two lines of executives in dark suits stood perfectly still.
No one looked at Ryan.
No one acknowledged Margaret.
Every eye was fixed on one person.
Emily.
She stepped outside holding Lily's hand.
Her black mourning dress was still damp from the storm.
She wore no jewelry.
No designer heels.
No makeup.
Just the same widow they had thrown onto the street barely two hours earlier.
The elderly executive smiled respectfully.
Then, in front of dozens of witnesses...
...he bowed.
"So good to finally meet you, Chairwoman Carter."
Behind him, every executive bowed as well.
"Welcome, Chairwoman."
The words echoed through the street.
Ryan laughed nervously.
"This is ridiculous."
"There must be some mistake."
Margaret forced a smile.
"My daughter-in-law doesn't understand business."
The elderly executive slowly turned toward her.
"No."
"You don't understand."
He removed a thick folder from his briefcase.
"This morning, an emergency vote of the Board of Directors was held."
"Based on Daniel Carter's legally registered trust..."
"...Mrs. Emily Carter became the controlling owner of Carter Global Holdings the moment Daniel passed away."
Ryan's smile disappeared.
Ashley shook her head.
"No..."
"That's impossible."
The executive calmly continued.
"Furthermore..."
"...Mr. Ryan Carter has been removed as Chief Executive Officer."
"...effective immediately."
Ryan exploded.
"You can't fire me!"
"I built this company!"
The executive quietly placed another document into Ryan's hands.
"No."
"Your younger brother did."
"You merely managed what belonged to him."
Ryan looked down.
His signature authority...
Canceled.
Corporate accounts...
Frozen.
Executive access...
Revoked.
Company vehicle...
Confiscated.
Every privilege vanished with a single signature.
Margaret suddenly rushed toward Emily.
Gone was the cold woman who had thrown Lily's teddy bear into the rain.
Now tears filled her eyes.
"Emily..."
"My dear..."
"We're family."
Emily looked at her silently.
Margaret reached for Lily.
"My precious granddaughter..."
Lily instinctively stepped behind her mother.
"You threw Teddy away."
The little girl's tiny voice cut deeper than any courtroom verdict.
"You said we didn't belong."
Margaret froze.
Emily finally spoke.
"You called us worthless."
"You locked us outside."
"You watched my daughter cry."
"And now..."
"...you suddenly remember we're family?"
No one answered.
Then Claire handed Emily another folder.
"I think you should read this."
Inside were financial reports.
Hidden accounts.
Luxury purchases.
Fake charities.
Millions of dollars quietly transferred over six years.
Every document carried the same signatures.
Ryan Carter.
Margaret Carter.
Ashley Carter.
Emily slowly closed the folder.
"I won't destroy this family."
Hope immediately appeared on Margaret's face.
Then Emily finished speaking.
"I'll let the law do it."
At that exact moment...
Police vehicles surrounded the entire street.
Ryan's knees nearly gave out.
Because the first detective walking toward them wasn't looking at Emily.
May you like
He was carrying an arrest warrant...
...with Ryan's name on it.
