CHAPTER 6 — “The DNA Test That Changed Everything”

By sunrise, every major news channel in America was broadcasting the unbelievable scandal.
BLACKWOOD FAMILY ACCUSED OF STEALING A NEWBORN HEIRESS.
The story spread across social media like wildfire.
Outside Blackwood Headquarters, hundreds of reporters waited.
Inside, the atmosphere was colder than ever.
Vanessa refused to believe the confession.
"I want proof."
"I want a DNA test."
Grace simply nodded.
"I do too."
Forty-eight agonizing hours later...
Everyone gathered in the company's executive boardroom.
Lawyers.
Doctors.
Board members.
Reporters.
Richard sat silently beside Grace.
Neither had slept.
The genetic specialist entered carrying a sealed envelope.
The room became completely silent.
He opened the report.
His voice echoed through the boardroom.
"The probability that Grace Miller is Vanessa Blackwood's biological mother..."
He paused.
"...is 99.999999%."
Vanessa's knees buckled.
She grabbed the edge of the conference table to keep from falling.
"No..."
"This can't be happening..."
She looked at Grace.
For the first time...
She wasn't seeing a maid.
She wasn't seeing an employee.
She was looking into the eyes that looked exactly like her own.
The same gray-blue eyes.
The same smile.
The same tiny birthmark near the left wrist.
Memories flooded back.
Every time Grace had gently covered her with a blanket when she accidentally fell asleep in the library.
Every time Grace had quietly left her favorite tea outside her office.
Every time Grace had smiled despite being humiliated.
Grace had loved her...
Without ever knowing why her heart refused to give up on the woman who treated her so cruelly.
Vanessa burst into tears.
She slowly walked toward Grace.
Then...
She fell to her knees.
"I'm sorry..."
"I didn't know..."
"I spent my whole life looking for approval..."
"...without realizing I was hurting the only person who loved me before I was even born."
Grace's tears flowed freely.
For a long moment...
She simply looked at the daughter stolen from her more than twenty years ago.
Then, with trembling hands...
She gently lifted Vanessa to her feet.
"You don't have to kneel."
"You've already lost enough because of someone else's lies."
The room watched in silence as mother and daughter embraced for the first time in twenty-one years.
But just as the emotional reunion began...
The boardroom doors burst open.
A federal investigator walked inside holding a thick case file.
He looked directly at Eleanor Blackwood.
"This investigation is no longer just about kidnapping."
"We've uncovered evidence of murder, fraud, forged inheritance records... and the disappearance of three other newborn babies connected to the same hospital."
Eleanor's face drained of all color.
Grace slowly released Vanessa's hand.

She realized the nightmare that had stolen her daughter...
Was far bigger than the Blackwood family had ever imagined.
