CHAPTER 9 — “She Said, ‘I'm Your Mother.’ He Laughed… Until He Saw the Bracelet.”

Ethan Sterling didn't even look up from the contract.

"My mother died when I was a baby."

His assistant hesitated.

"Sir... she refused to leave."

"She said she has something that belongs to you."

Ethan sighed.

"Five minutes."

The doors opened.

Grace stepped quietly into the office, wearing the same simple gray dress she had worn since leaving the Blackwood mansion.

No designer clothes.

No bodyguards.

No lawyers.

Only a small velvet box in her trembling hands.

Ethan studied her.

She looked familiar somehow...

But he couldn't explain why.

"I don't know who convinced you to come here," he said calmly, "but this won't work."

Grace smiled sadly.

"I didn't come for your company."

"I didn't come for your money."

"I came because I never stopped looking for my son."

Ethan stood.

"My parents loved me."

"And I loved them."

"I'm sorry for whatever happened to you."

"But I'm not your child."

Grace nodded.

"I understand."

She slowly opened the velvet box.

Inside lay a tiny blue hospital bracelet.

Faded.

Cracked with age.

Still bearing the words...

Baby A.

Ethan's heartbeat quickened.

He had seen that bracelet before.

His adoptive father, Harrison Sterling, had kept an identical bracelet locked inside a safe.

He once told Ethan,

"If anyone ever brings you the matching bracelet..."

"...listen to everything they have to say."

Ethan looked up in shock.

"How did you get this?"

Grace's voice trembled.

"Because I placed it on your wrist the day you were born."

At that exact moment...

The office doors burst open.

An elderly man hurried inside, breathing heavily.

It was Harrison Sterling.

He looked at the bracelet.

Then at Grace.

His face turned pale.

For twenty-eight years...

He had carried a terrible secret.

He slowly removed an old envelope from his jacket.

"I prayed this day would never come..."

He handed it to Ethan.

Inside was a handwritten confession.

It read:

If you're reading this, it means the truth has finally found us. We never bought you. We believed we were adopting an abandoned baby legally. We loved you every day of your life. But if your birth mother is standing before you... she deserves to hear the truth from us, not from strangers.

Ethan's hands shook.

He looked at Harrison.

"You knew?"

Tears rolled down the old billionaire's face.

"I only learned the truth three months ago."

"I was trying to find her..."

"...before someone else did."

Silence filled the office.

Then Ethan slowly walked toward Grace.

His voice cracked.

"Did you really..."

"...look for me all these years?"

Grace couldn't answer.

She simply nodded through her tears.

For the first time in twenty-eight years...

Mother and son embraced.

The office staff quietly looked away.

Even hardened executives wiped tears from their eyes.

But downstairs...

Dozens of police vehicles suddenly surrounded Sterling Tower.

The lead detective stepped out holding an arrest warrant.

The conspiracy...

Wasn't over yet.
