Chapter 4 – The DNA Test That Destroyed An Empire

Richard ordered the restaurant doors locked.

No one left.

Within minutes, his private security arrived.

Then his lawyer.

Then a doctor.

Right there, in the private dining room, Richard demanded an emergency DNA test.

Victoria shouted.

"This is insane! You’re humiliating our family!"

Richard looked at her with red eyes.

"No, Victoria. Someone already did that twenty-two years ago."

Emily sat silently in the corner, holding the silver bracelet like it was the only real thing in her life.

She had spent years wondering why no one wanted her.

Now she was terrified to learn that someone had wanted her gone.

When the first test result came back, Richard opened the envelope with shaking hands.

He read one line.

Then collapsed into a chair.

Emily was his daughter.

His real daughter.

The lost Ashford heir.

The waitress everyone had mocked was worth more than every person in that room combined.

Victoria tried to leave.

But Richard’s lawyer stopped her.

"Not yet, ma’am."

Then the second envelope arrived.

It contained hospital records from the night of the fire.

A nurse had signed the baby out minutes before the alarm.

That nurse had later received a large payment from a hidden account.

The account belonged to...

Victoria Ashford.

Richard looked at his sister like she was a stranger.

"Why?"

Victoria’s perfect mask finally cracked.

"Because she was supposed to inherit everything!"

Emily stood frozen.

Victoria pointed at her and screamed,

"She was a baby, and she already had more power than me!"

Then Richard said the words that ended Victoria’s life of luxury:

"Call the police."

But as officers entered the restaurant, Emily opened the final document.

And what she read made her blood run cold.

Her mother had not died from grief.

Her mother had been murdered.
