CHAPTER 1 — The Coffee He Threw Changed Everything

The lunch crowd at Maple Street Diner was louder than usual.

Plates clattered.

Children laughed.

Businessmen argued over million-dollar contracts.

And in the middle of it all...

Twenty-six-year-old Emma Carter smiled through another exhausting twelve-hour shift.

Nobody noticed the dark circles beneath her eyes.

Nobody knew she worked three jobs.

Nobody knew she was paying for her mother's cancer treatment.

To everyone else...

She was "just another waitress."

At exactly 12:17 PM...

The restaurant doors swung open.

Silence spread across the room.

Everyone recognized him immediately.

Adrian Blackwood.

America's youngest billionaire.

Owner of Blackwood Technologies.

Featured on magazine covers.

Worth nearly twelve billion dollars.

Walking beside him...

His glamorous fiancée, Vanessa Reed, followed with a smug smile, filming everything on her phone for social media.

The manager nearly ran to greet them.

"Mr. Blackwood! What an honor!"

Emma was assigned their table.

She approached politely.

"Good afternoon. May I take your order?"

Without even looking at her...

Adrian said coldly,

"Water."

Vanessa looked Emma up and down before laughing.

"Wow..."

"They really hire anyone these days."

Emma forced herself to smile.

"What would you like for lunch?"

Vanessa pointed at Emma's hands.

"Maybe wash those first."

Several customers laughed quietly.

Emma ignored it.

She had learned long ago...

Pride didn't pay hospital bills.

Twenty minutes later...

Emma carefully served their meals.

As she placed Adrian's coffee beside him...

Vanessa deliberately pushed the cup.

Coffee splashed across Adrian's expensive Italian suit.

Vanessa gasped theatrically.

"Oh my God!"

"The waitress ruined your suit!"

Before Emma could explain...

Adrian stood.

Without hesitation...

He grabbed the entire mug...

And poured the remaining hot coffee over Emma's uniform.

The restaurant froze.

Coffee dripped from her hair.

Burning her neck.

Her apron.

Her trembling hands.

Adrian's voice echoed through the diner.

"You people should know your place."

"If you can't even serve coffee..."

"You don't deserve a paycheck."

Customers stared.

Some recorded videos.

No one helped.

Emma whispered...

"I'm... sorry."

Although...

She knew it hadn't been her fault.

Vanessa smiled into her phone.

"This is definitely going viral."

Emma bent down quietly...

Picking up broken porcelain from the floor.

One sharp piece sliced her palm.

Blood mixed with coffee.

Still...

She apologized again.

Just before Adrian and Vanessa walked away...

An elderly janitor who had been silently mopping the hallway looked directly at Emma.

His eyes widened.

Then he whispered only four words.

"They found her..."

Emma looked confused.

"What?"

But the old man was already gone.

She never realized...

Those four words had just awakened a secret buried for twenty-two years.

And somewhere across the city...

A private helicopter lifted off.

May you like

Its destination...

Maple Street Diner.
