Chapter 3 - The Siege of the Anderson Home

Headline: LILY FIGHTS BACK! The Shocking Moment a Corrupt Neighborhood Council Exposed Their Sickening Hidden Agenda!

Mike drove like a maniac, the tires of his SUV screeching as he tore around the corner into his neighborhood, Officer Davies close behind with sirens wailing.

When they arrived, the scene on the front lawn was pure chaos. Mrs. Parker, the usually pristine neighborhood gossip, was standing on the porch, holding a legal-looking clipboard and yelling at Sarah through the screen door. Behind Mrs. Parker stood three burly men dressed in dark, unmarked tactical vests, carrying heavy-duty animal crates.

"You have no legal right to withhold those animals!" Mrs. Parker was shrieking, her face twisted in a mask of rage completely uncharacteristic of a suburban housewife. "The neighborhood association bylaws state that stray animals found on communal property must be turned over to the designated local animal control officer—which is my nephew’s firm! Open this door, Sarah, or we will break it down!"

"Get off my property!" Mike roared, slamming his car door shut and sprinting across the lawn, his fists clenched.

The three men in tactical vests turned instantly, their hands dropping toward their belts. Officer Davies stepped up beside Mike, his hand resting firmly on his holster. "Step away from the door, Mrs. Parker. Now. This is officially a federal investigation into exotic animal trafficking."

At the mention of exotic animal trafficking, Mrs. Parker’s face drained of all color. She looked back at the three men, her eyes darting frantically. "I... I don't know what you're talking about! We just want the puppies! They belong to a... a high-value breeder!"

Suddenly, the front window of the Anderson living room shattered into a thousand glittering shards.

One of the men had thrown a heavy brick through the glass, reaching his thick arm inside to unlatch the front door. He kicked the door open, ignoring Sarah’s screams, and lunged into the living room toward the basket containing the five black puppies.

But he didn't make it two steps.

Out of the shadows of the hallway, a caramel streak of fury launched into the air. Lily, her emerald eyes blazing with the primal rage of a mother protecting her young, slammed directly into the man’s face. Her claws sank deep into his cheeks and forehead, tearing flesh. The man shrieked in agony, flailing wildly as the small, grieving cat became a whirlwind of teeth and claws.

"Get this demon off me!" the man screamed, stumbling backward out onto the porch, blood pouring down his neck.

In the distraction, the second man lunged for the puppy basket. But as he grabbed the handle, Officer Davies tackled him to the ground, handcuffing him in a swift, brutal motion. The third man sprinted toward an unmarked black van parked at the curb, slamming the doors and flooring the gas, abandoning his partners as he sped away into the night.

Mrs. Parker dropped her clipboard, falling to her knees, sobbing hysterically. "I didn't know they were going to hurt anyone! They just paid me! They paid me ten thousand dollars to watch the house and report if anyone found the cargo!"

As the dust settled, Grace ran out of the house, cradling the puppy basket tightly to her chest. Lily landed gracefully on the porch railing, her fur puffed out, her breathing heavy, a single drop of blood on her nose that wasn't her own. She stared down at Mrs. Parker with a cold, terrifying intelligence.

But the danger was far from over. As Officer Davies searched the pockets of the bleeding man Lily had attacked, he pulled out a heavily encrypted burner phone. A text message had just arrived on the screen.

Mike leaned over to read it, and his blood ran cold. The message read: The Boss knows the cat found the vault. Burn the house down with the family inside. Leave no witnesses.
