Chapter 4 - The Shadow Boss Unmasked

Headline: "A WOLF IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING!" – The Terrifying Identity of the Mastermind Who Ordered the Hit on Lily the Cat!

The Anderson family was immediately moved to a secure, undisclosed safe house provided by the federal wildlife task force. The five puppies, their rescued mother (whom Grace had named Hope), and the exotic Lynx cub were all placed under 24-hour armed guard at a high-security veterinary hospital.

Lily refused to leave the puppies' side. Even at the safe house, she paced the perimeter of the room, her ears twitching at every sound, acting as the supreme commander of their security detail.

Federal Agent Marcus Vance sat across from Mike and Sarah in the safe house kitchen, tossing a stack of corporate dossiers onto the table.

"We’ve been tracking Apex Exotic Imports for three years," Agent Vance explained, rubbing his tired eyes. "They use suburban neighborhoods as temporary 'cool-down' zones for smuggled wildlife before shipping them to wealthy private buyers overseas. Mrs. Parker was just a low-level lookout. The men who attacked your house are corporate mercenaries."

"Who is running it?" Mike demanded, his hand gripping Sarah’s tightly. "Who ordered a hit on my family over a cat and some animals?"

Agent Vance sighed, sliding a photograph across the table. "That's the problem. The mastermind isn't an underground gangster. It’s someone you know very well. Someone who has access to every home, every property line, and every piece of local intelligence in your town."

Sarah gasped, her hand flying to her mouth.

The photograph showed a handsome, smiling man in a pristine white lab coat, holding a golden retriever puppy.

It was Dr. Robert Harrison—the very neighborhood veterinarian Sarah had been calling twice a day. The man who had acted "shocked" when told about Lily's milk coming in. The man who had treated Lily after her stillbirth.

"He used his veterinary practice as a front to acquire tranquilizers, specialized cages, and medical supplies for the smuggling ring," Vance said coldly. "The abandoned house belongs to a shell company registered under his wife's maiden name. When Lily lost her kittens, she must have wandered onto that property looking for a place to grieve. She smelled the starving puppies and the Lynx cub, and her maternal instincts overrode everything. Dr. Harrison realized his entire multi-million dollar operation was being dismantled piece by piece by a single, determined house cat."

Suddenly, the lights in the safe house flickered violently.

Buzz. Buzz. Snap.

The entire house plunged into pitch-black darkness. The air conditioning cut out, leaving only the sound of the humid night air outside.

From the hallway, Lily let out a low, guttural growl—a sound that didn't belong to a domestic cat. It was a warning.
