CHAPTER 5 — The Woman From Emily's Past

Not everyone celebrated Emily's success.
Someone...
Wanted revenge.
Late one evening...
A luxury SUV stopped outside Emily's school.
A glamorous woman stepped out.
Diamond earrings.
Designer handbag.
Perfect smile.
"Emily."
Emily looked up...
And froze.
"Rachel..."
Rachel Lawson.
Her college roommate.
The woman who had spent four years mocking Emily for refusing to reveal her wealthy family.
"You actually married into the Sterling family."
Rachel laughed.
"I underestimated you."
Emily remained calm.
"What do you want?"
Rachel leaned closer.
"I know your secret."
Emily didn't answer.
Rachel continued.
"You hid your identity."
"You lied to everyone."
"I wonder how the media would react."
Emily smiled softly.
"Go ahead."
Rachel frowned.
"You're not afraid?"
Emily reached into her bag.
Pulled out an envelope.
"I've been waiting."
Rachel slowly opened it.
Inside...
Were copies of emails.
Bank transfers.
Fake invoices.
Rachel's face turned white.
Emily spoke quietly.
"I know everything."
"You stole research from our university."
"You bribed officials."
"You ruined another student's career."
Rachel stepped backward.
"How..."
Emily interrupted.
"My grandfather taught me something."
"If you expect betrayal..."
"Prepare before it happens."
Rachel whispered,
"What do you want?"
Emily looked toward the playground where children were laughing.
"I don't want revenge."
"I want justice."
The next morning...
Rachel voluntarily confessed to financial fraud.
Several criminal investigations followed.
Reporters praised Emily for refusing to destroy Rachel publicly.
