CHAPTER 1 — The Woman Everyone Had Already Forgotten

For seven endless years, Emily Carter lay motionless in Room 407.

Machines breathed for her.

Nurses changed shifts.

Doctors came and went.

But no one ever expected her to wake up again.

Her husband, Daniel, visited during the first few months, crying beside her bed and promising he would wait forever.

Then... he stopped coming.

The flowers disappeared.

The wedding ring was quietly removed from her finger.

Even the hospital staff eventually referred to her as "the long-term patient."

Emily heard nothing.

Saw nothing.

Felt nothing.

Or so everyone believed.

Because buried deep inside the darkness, her mind was still fighting.

She heard muffled voices.

Footsteps.

Arguments.

Sometimes she recognized Daniel's voice...

Other times she heard a woman laughing beside him.

She wanted to scream.

She wanted to open her eyes.

But her body refused to obey.

Years passed.

Her parents died believing their daughter would never wake up.

Daniel legally took control of every asset Emily owned, claiming he needed it to "pay medical expenses."

The family mansion...

The investment company...

Every account...

Everything slowly became his.

Nobody questioned it.

After all...

Who argues with a grieving husband?

Then, on an ordinary Tuesday morning...

Emily's finger moved.

At first, a nurse thought she imagined it.

Then another finger twitched.

Seconds later...

Emily opened her eyes.

The entire ICU froze.

Doctors rushed into the room.

Machines erupted with alarms.

Seven years...

And the impossible had just happened.

Emily looked around with terrified eyes.

Her lips trembled.

Only one sentence escaped.

"...Where is Daniel?"

No one answered.

May you like

Because everyone already knew...

Daniel had built an entirely new life without her.
