CHAPTER 3 — The Memory Daniel Feared Most

Emily didn’t scream.
She didn’t cry.
She only stared at Daniel as the little boy’s words echoed through the room.
“The lady you said would never wake up.”
Daniel grabbed the child’s shoulder.
“Don’t say things you don’t understand.”
But it was too late.
The doctor had heard it.
The nurses had heard it.
And Emily had heard the one sentence that pulled a buried memory from the darkness.
The night of the accident...
Daniel wasn’t alone.
There had been another voice in the room.
A woman’s voice.
Calm.
Cold.
Powerful.
Emily’s breathing became sharp.
“I remember now,” she whispered.
Daniel froze.
His mistress stepped back.
Emily slowly turned toward the chief physician.
“Before I lost consciousness... Daniel said someone higher than him wanted me gone.”
The doctor’s face changed.
“Who?”
Emily’s eyes filled with terror.
Then she said the name no one expected.
“Your hospital director.”
The room went dead silent.
Because the hospital director wasn’t just a doctor.
He was Daniel’s secret business partner.
And seven years ago...
Emily had discovered they were stealing millions from her company.
Daniel tried to run.
But security blocked the door.
Then Emily smiled weakly and said,
“Check the necklace I wore that night.”
A nurse opened the hospital evidence box.
Inside was Emily’s broken necklace.
Hidden behind the pendant...
Was a tiny recording chip.
May you like
Daniel collapsed to his knees.
Because the truth had been recording the entire time.
